Summary We are currently recruiting an IT Systems Administrator for our Spartan IT department in Calgary. Reporting to the Manager, IT Service & Sustainability and working within the infrastructure team, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and improving our core infrastructure environment, including servers, virtualization, storage, and backup systems. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, strong technical capabilities, and a solid understanding of the business impact of infrastructure operations. This will be a hybrid role, with a minimum requirement of 2 days per week in-office, following an initial onboarding period where more days in-office will be required. Role and Responsibilities Infrastructure Operations
Administer and support core infrastructure systems, including servers, virtualization platforms, storage, and backup environments Perform lifecycle management of infrastructure, including implementation, maintenance, upgrades, and decommissioning Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability, ensuring high reliability of critical systems
Platform Administration
Manage and maintain virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere), including hosts and clusters Administer enterprise storage environments, including Storage Area Networks (SANs) and file servers Maintain enterprise backup systems (on-premises and cloud), ensuring successful recovery and data protection
Systems & Services
Support Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online Administer Microsoft Configuration Manager (MCM) for endpoint management and software deployment Maintain SUSE Linux systems, including SAP HANA appliances
Automation & Continuous Improvement
Develop and maintain automation and scripting solutions (PowerShell) Contribute to infrastructure modernization and continuous improvement initiatives
Operational Support
Troubleshoot infrastructure issues and lead resolution efforts Participate in after-hours maintenance windows as required Travel occasionally to Spartan offices across Western Canada Qualifications and Skills Formal Education & Certification
Post-secondary education, preferably in Computing Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field Minimum of 3 years of systems or infrastructure administration experience
Knowledge & Experience
Strong experience with virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, Hyper‑V) Experience administering enterprise storage environments and file services Familiarity with enterprise backup solutions and recovery processes Experience with Microsoft technologies, including:
Exchange Online Microsoft Configuration Manager (MCM) Azure, Entra ID, and Intune
Active Directory and ADFS administration experience Working knowledge of Linux administration (SUSE preferred; SAP HANA experience is an asset) PowerShell scripting and automation skills Hands-on hardware troubleshooting and lifecycle management experience
