POSITION SUMMARY

The Billing Officer is responsible for billing, preparing invoices, collecting payments, and managing outstanding accounts while in compliance with financial policies and procedures and providing support to the Corporate Accounting team.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review, prepare and processes complex accounts, billing, invoices, incoming payments and receipts in a timely manner;
  • Validate and communicate with third parties (including patients and families) regarding billing issues, invoicing, missing information, coverage, claims and payment collection;
  • Prepare and issue complex invoices and responds promptly to related inquires;
  • Confirm coverage, charges, information, fees and correct billing codes on all documentation;
  • Coordinate with internal clinics, insurance providers and government agencies to ensure accurate claims processing;
  • Manage outstanding accounts and arrange payment plans when necessary;
  • Monitor aged trial balances and follow up on overdue invoices and accounts;
  • Generate and review monthly claim reports and detailed accounts receivable reports as required;
  • Respond to inquiries in person, by email, and over the phone, ensuring accurate and courteous communication;
  • Provide support to the team by handling customer service inquires, processing requests, and managing correspondence when needed;
  • Carries out additional duties as required to support departmental operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in finance or accounting (Essential)
  • Minimum three (3) years of work experience in finance and/or accounting (Essential)
  • Experience in a medical office or healthcare setting (Preferred)
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, analytical, and critical thinking skills (Essential)
  • Experience with EPIC (EMR) Platform (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a team environment and build strong collaborative relationships (Essential)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills (Essential)
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other Finance & Accounting software (Essential)
  • High accuracy and attention to detail (Essential)
  • Ability to take initiative, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain flexibility in a dynamic environment (Essential)
  • Working knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and general knowledge of corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to health and safety (Preferred)
  • Criminal Record Check (Level 1) (Essential)
  • Bilingualism (French/English) (Essential)

This assignment may be extended or shortened based on operational needs

Effective March 29, 2021, CHEO will conduct a more comprehensive pre-screening and evaluation process. This process may include more varied and multidimensional testing such as a written test, practical exam, or other assessment. All candidates who meet the essential and preferred qualifications may be tested. Bilingualism (French/English) will be validated by a language proficiency assessment conducted by a third party provider.
