About the role

The Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) is looking for a full-time Accounting Manager to join our team.

Working closely with the Director of Finance and other leaders in our Finance and Strategy teams, you’ll plan, direct, and oversee daily operations of the accounting team for a company that regularly grosses around $1.5 billion in sales each year.

The Role

We’re looking for someone who can…

  • Supervise and support accounting staff including training, development, and prioritizing work.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the accounting team; refine and update relevant policies, processes, and procedures as necessary.
  • Be a trusted resource to provide expert accounting advice and service to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Be accountable for the internal control environment within the accounting area including responding to any internal audit recommendations.
  • Guide all aspects of month-end / year-end; including sales and expense cut-off to ensure complete and accurate reporting periods including account reconciliations.
  • Prepare, analyze, and review financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis – and assist with regulatory reporting when necessary.
  • Coordinate, complete and manage the year-end external audit processes.
  • Support and oversee accounts payable, inventory and asset management.
  • Coordinate and manage banking and treasury functions.
  • Manage the filing of GST and PST submissions.
  • Coordinate and manage the WCLC Pension Plan financial accounting and statement preparation.
  • Maintain current with relevant accounting standards / principles and integrate required changes into accounting operations.
  • Manage all aspects of the Great Plains accounting system including chart of accounts, cost allocation rules / programming, reporting, system administration, user access, and training.
  • Support the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis in preparing annual budgets.

Qualifications
You should have…

  • Your CPA designation.

  • A minimum 5-7 years accounting experience, including 2 years supervising an accounting team.

  • Demonstrated expertise in overseeing month-end and year-end processes, as well as facilitating the year-end external audit process.

  • Well developed leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent service and advice to internal stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication, organization, and analytical skills.

  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics - Great Plains (definite asset).

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products with advanced Excel skills.
