About the Role:

The Extrusion Technician plays a critical role in the manufacturing process by operating and maintaining extrusion machinery to produce high-quality products that meet precise specifications. This position requires a deep understanding of extrusion techniques, materials, and equipment to ensure efficient production runs and minimize downtime. The technician will collaborate closely with engineering and quality control teams to troubleshoot issues, optimize processes, and implement improvements. Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols are essential to maintain a safe working environment and consistent product standards. Ultimately, the Extrusion Technician contributes to the overall success of the business by ensuring reliable, cost-effective, and timely production output.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Process Engineer to:
    • Set up, operate, and monitor extrusion equipment to produce products according to specifications and quality standards.
    • Implement yield rate improvement, including billet length optimization, process parameter optimization and process card management
    • Achieve efficiency by increasing extrusion speed via process parameters and die optimization
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of extrusion machinery to ensure optimal performance and prevent breakdowns.
  • Inspect raw materials and finished products for defects or inconsistencies, documenting findings and reporting issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality assurance teams to troubleshoot process deviations and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate production records, including machine settings, material usage, and production output.
  • Adhere strictly to safety guidelines and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Assist in training new technicians and support continuous improvement initiatives within the extrusion department to support the correct operation of the extrusion and aging process.
  • Monitor and do surveillance inspection of on-site process implementation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience operating extrusion machinery in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine equipment maintenance.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions and safety protocols.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, such as work orders and process sheets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical certification or vocational training related to extrusion or manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and repairing extrusion equipment.
  • Familiarity with quality control standards and inspection techniques.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and production reporting.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of both mechanical and electrical systems in order to have overall picture to combine or separate problems into base components
  • Aluminum extrusion experience, including isothermal extrusion control
  • Physical requirements include the ability to perform medium to heavy tasks such as lifting, pushing, and pulling on a frequent basis.
