What will you be doing!

• Executing Research Projects:
  • Developing research proposals and detailed project plans.
  • Developing project schedules and budgets.
  • Providing expert technical input to colleagues, management, and external customers.
• Supervision:
  • Providing technical direction and oversight to laboratory and field technologists, as well as other scientists.
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely and in accordance with procedures.
  • Guiding junior scientists and technologists within project teams.
• Communication:
  • Communicating project progress and results to relevant stakeholders.
  • Communicating research or scientific findings to external customers.
  • Preparing scientific and technical reports, including peer‑reviewed manuscripts. Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

-Education

• Postgraduate degree in Earth or Environmental Sciences, with appropriate specialization in hydrogeology and/or environmental geochemistry.
• Licensed practicing Geoscientist with the Professional Geoscientists of Ontario.
• Minimum M.Sc. requirement, Ph.D. considered an asset. -Experience
• A minimum of 15 years of experience in a relevant field.
• Experience in the application of environmental isotopes or radiochemical analysis (with a particular focus on H-3, C-14, Sr-90 and Cs-137) in research activities.
• Experience in designing, planning and conducting research projects in both field and laboratory settings.
• Experience in preparing and submitting successful research proposals.
• Experience managing projects, which includes reporting, schedule & budget monitoring.
• Experience communicating with stakeholders and presenting research to audiences with varying degrees of technical expertise.
• Experience supervising and mentoring laboratory and field technologists and junior professionals
• Hydrogeological, geochemical, and reactive transport modelling experience considered an asset.
• Experience communicating research or scientific findings to external customers. -Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Knowledge of environmental radiochemistry, environmental pathways modelling and environmental regulatory requirements for nuclear facilities and operations.
• Demonstration of skills and abilities in preparing written scientific and technical reports, including publication in peer-reviewed journals.
• Knowledge of (and commitment to) safe laboratory and fieldwork practices.
• Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary team environments. -Security Clearance Eligibility Required

Working Conditions:

• Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
• This position is part of the CRPEGUnionand is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in their Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you’ll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
• This position will involve some field and laboratory work, and the field work proceeds in various weather conditions.
• Some tasks and projects may involve working in controlled areas where personal equipment and procedure requirements extend beyond conventional protective clothing to include equipment such as respirators and specialized dosimetry tools and procedures.
• Work will be at Chalk River, but CNL owns a number of other nuclear facilities in Canada and performs contract work for clients in Canada and abroad, and limited off-site work should be expected.
