The Environmental Assessment and Stewardship Branch has an exciting opportunity for an articulate, proactive, confident individual for the role ofStakeholder Engagement Lead. This is a one-year term with the possibility of extension.

The Environmental Assessment and Stewardship Branch leads the delivery of the provincial environmental assessment, waste stewardship and recycling programs and leads the implementation of the Saskatchewan Solid Waste Management Strategy.

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will have the opportunity to apply your experience leading public participation programs and managing projects while:

  • Leading engagement on priority projects and initiatives in Saskatchewan’s Solid Waste Management Strategy with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Leading engagement activities on a variety of projects designed to improve, simplify and streamline regulations, policies and programs.
  • Leading and supporting public and Indigenous participation in the provincial environmental assessment program as well as consultation with First Nations and Métis communities;
  • Conducting research and analysis of public engagement, waste management and environmental assessment policy and program topics;
  • Developing a network to support cross-government collaboration and stakeholder engagement with regard to the work of the branch; and
  • Developing proactive engagement plans and communications, support the achievement of the goals of the Solid Waste Management Strategy and the environmental assessment process.

The ideal candidate will be respectful, diplomatic, and have the ability to: clearly and concisely plan and facilitate information sessions or meetings; respond to questions to promote a greater understanding of programs; and articulate strategic directions to link current operations to the future goals and objectives of the ministry. Strong project management and collaboration skills are essential.

Typically, the competencies required for this position would be obtained through the completion of a degree related to journalism, public relations, communications or other social sciences, along with experience planning, organizing and implementing stakeholder engagement activities. Demonstrated experience in communications and strategic communication planning and advice or training from the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) would be considered an asset.

Although this position is primarily office-based, some travel, including to remote locations, will be required.
