Job Title: Director of Engineering & Technical Services Location: Wingham, Ontario
Position Summary Reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations , the Director of Engineering & Technical Services is responsible for leading the Technical Services and Product Development teams. This role ensures the successful and timely delivery of engineering projects, within scope, budget, and quality standards. Key responsibilities include strategic oversight, technical policy development, and cross-functional collaboration to drive continuous improvement, design optimization, and cost efficiency.
This role also plays a critical leadership function, focusing on team development, performance management, retention, and fostering a high-performing, engaged workforce. A key aspect of success in this role is the ability to manage complex deadlines with a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail. Occasional travel (approximately 10% or less) may be required.

Qualifications Education & Technical Knowledge:
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation required
- Familiarity with Canadian and/or U.S. Building Codes
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Understanding of construction methodologies
- Knowledge of welding, drafting practices, tolerances, welding symbols, and fabrication procedures is considered an asset
- Eligible to seal engineering documents or attain such qualification within six months (asset)
Skills & Abilities
- Proven leadership with strong interpersonal and team management skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- Strong communication skills for interaction with engineers, customers, and end clients
- Motivational leadership with the ability to drive accountability and deliver results

Professional Experience
- 7+ years in engineering and technical management roles
- Background in technical design, product development, and drafting
- Experience with a range of building materials
- Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies
- Strong structural design experience
- Understanding of material and building cost estimation
- Demonstrated experience with launching new products
Communication
- Excellent verbal and written communication in English
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
- Reliable in follow-through and coordination
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development:
- Provide leadership for Engineering, CAD, SolidWorks, and Product Design teams
- Plan and manage departmental resources to support significant business growth
- Develop and maintain strategic roadmaps for product and asset development
- Mentor and support team members' growth and development; lead performance reviews
- Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement
- Drive efficiency and simplicity in processes and design solutions
- Manage departmental budgets and resource allocation
- Collaborate with Sales Support on cost-effective design solutions
- Oversee hiring, onboarding, and team structure to ensure long-term success
Technical Oversight
- Guide the design and concept development process
- Review and validate technical drawings and design outputs
- Maintain a thorough understanding of company products and quality standards
- Develop and implement design standards considering material tolerances and manufacturing requirements
- Coordinate scheduling and technical problem-solving during design and testing phases
- Oversee the integration of technical development across departments
Strategic & Operational Excellence
- Improve profitability through product design and process optimization
- Develop and execute a long-term vision and strategy for the department
- Align departmental goals with executive objectives and business targets
- Allocate and manage resources effectively to meet KPIs and customer demands
- Lead product innovation, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Enforce document control practices and ensure timely communication of changes
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Customer Focus
- Work closely with Estimating, Operations, Sales, and other departments to align on goals
- Collaborate with external engineers, architects, and customers as needed
- Support Dealer Managers and Quality teams in resolving field-related issues
- Act as a technical authority within the company, establishing credibility and guiding best practices
- Maintain a high-urgency environment to ensure all deliverables are met on schedule
- Perform additional responsibilities as required in support of business goals
