Manager, Pharmacy Services- Pharmacy – Full Time
About the role
Sault Area Hospital is presently seeking a highly motivated individual who is able to lead a health care team in a constantly changing and complex environment in Pharmacy Services.
Reporting to the Director of Clinical Support Services, the Manager of Pharmacy Services is responsible for providing operational oversite of the pharmacy department which includes, inpatient, outpatient, and community pharmacy services. The manager will ensure compliance with the Ontario College of Pharmacists standards to maintain College accreditation status. Participation in and leading organizational medication system transformation projects is key, as is collaborating with the various stakeholders within the medication system. Areas of accountability include operations management related to staffing and service delivery, human resource management, financial management, quality assurance, leadership, and maintenance of professional practice.
Excellent leadership, problem solving, organizational, and communication abilities are essential, as well as team building and mentoring skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure program services are appropriately staffed, as per Collective Agreements, to meet care requirements of clients and manage any staffing issues that may arise.
- Collaborate with leaders of other departments to ensure that the necessary equipment and materials are available for staff to carry out their roles and that equipment is in good repair.
- Maintain current knowledge of best practices and benchmarks for the delivery of patient care and/or services, and implement improvements/changes as appropriate.
- Communicate regularly with internal and external customers (as appropriate) to assess level of satisfaction with services provided and implement remedial actions as necessary within available resources.
- Communicate regularly with other leaders to improve services and reduce expenses.
- Function as a professional role model demonstrating good interpersonal skills and a commitment to self-growth and development.
- Actively pursue methods/strategies to continually improve workflow efficiencies, quality of services, patient satisfaction and staff/patient safety.
- Ensure patient safety strategies are followed.
- Participation in and leading organizational medication system transformation projects
- Ensure all work meets established quality standards (e.g. data entry).
- Support positive SAH image publicly and internally (as per Standards of Performance).
- Promote a healthy work environment in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety and Human Resource Standards.
- Assist in development of communications strategies/plans/messaging as needed.
- Assume other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
- A registered Pharmacy Professional, in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists or a Registered Health Professional in good standing with the appropriate regulated governing body with qualifications below
- Three (3) years’ pharmacy experience in an Acute Care or Ambulatory Hospital setting with experience in a variety of clinical settings. Community pharmacy experience an asset.
- Three (3) years’ pharmacy management/leadership experience preferred.
- Membership in the Canadian Society of Healthcare-Systems Pharmacy and/or other professional societies is an asset.

SAH provides primary, secondary and select tertiary services to a total catchment population of approximately 115,000 residents in Sault Ste. Marie and the District of Algoma. In addition to providing core services in Emergency and Critical Care; Medicine; Surgery; Obstetrics, Maternity and Pediatrics; Mental Health and Addictions; Complex Continuing Care; and Rehabilitation, SAH is also home to the Algoma Regional Renal Program and the Algoma District Cancer Program. With the opening of the new integrated, one-site hospital in March 2011 also came the first-ever satellite radiation treatment suite in the province. SAH is extremely proud of our approximately 1850 dedicated staff, 370 physicians (active, supportive and locums) and 500+ volunteers who provide almost 65,000 hours of service each year.
