About the role
Job Description Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.
At Metrolinx, equity, diversity and inclusion are essential to living our values of serving with passion, thinking forward and playing as a team.
CPG’s workforce is made up of driven and dedicated professionals who care deeply about working together to deliver infrastructure and make a positive impact in our communities. Join us as we build a knowledgeable and collaborative team that courageously changes how transit projects will be delivered.
This role is accountable for providing support to the Senior Business Intelligence Developer by assisting with the development of BI tools/applications, reports and transformation of data from source to visualization. This role requires a systematic understanding of the data and the transformation processes which form the foundation of our reporting. It is expected to collaborate with various teams across CPG to establish dynamic reporting, develop KPIs and proactively work towards applying Power Platform tools to enable good-quality data collection, and to improve data transformation/integration efficiency.
What will I be doing?
- Lead the design, development, and delivery of Power BI dashboards and reports—from concept to deployment—ensuring alignment with business objectives and stakeholder needs.
- Collaborate with Business Analysts and cross-functional teams to gather, analyze, and translate complex business requirements into actionable BI solutions.
- Integrate and transform data from multiple sources (on-premises and cloud) using Power Query, DAX, and advanced data modeling techniques to enable effective data visualization and decision-making.
- Conduct thorough data profiling, cleansing, and validation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity across reports and dashboards.
- Develop complex and interactive visuals that provide actionable insights, support KPI tracking, and drive performance improvement.
- Prepare and execute user acceptance testing plans and address issues identified during testing to ensure solution quality and reliability.
- Document technical solutions, data models, and development standards in alignment with business requirements and SOPs.
- Continuously evaluate and implement emerging BI tools, trends, and best practices to optimize solution design, enhance scalability, and drive innovation in analytics delivery.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related STEM discipline — or an equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience.
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in business intelligence, data analytics, and solving complex quantitative business challenges, preferably within the transportation, construction, or public sector industries.
- Proven track record in developing interactive dashboards and BI solutions that drive actionable insights. Proficiency in Power BI, including DAX and Power Query (M) is preferred.
- Strong experience with database management, data modeling, analytical processing, and ETL/ELT frameworks, including integrating and transforming data from multiple sources.
- Familiarity with Power Platform tools (Power Apps, Power Automate) and Microsoft Fabric is considered an asset.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills, with a proactive approach to continuous improvement and innovation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex data and insights clearly and effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
