About the Opportunity

The primary objective of this role is to deliver and oversee all aspects of event planning, execution, and follow-up of MNBC events from start to finish.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Researches appropriate venues, vendors, contractors, facilitators, etc. and negotiates contracts, as required.

• Follows budget requirements and procurement procedures in accordance with Finance policies.

• Liaises with project partners to ensure all logistical requirements are in place prior to and during the event, including but not limited to, venue and rental bookings, attendee registration, travel/accommodation requirements, and setup/teardown coordination.

• Develops and distributes event schedule (run of show) with all internal/external parties involved.

• Attends and supervises events, as required, to ensure proper execution of planning and logistics.

• Proactively handles any arising issues and troubleshoots any emerging problems on the day(s) of the event.

• Acts as the primary point of contact for venues, vendors, contractors, facilitators, etc.

• Determines event staffing requirements in collaboration with team members and assigning work.

• Conducts pre- and post-event evaluations and reports on outcomes.

• Participates in committees and project teams as required.

• Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of the position.

• Other duties may be assigned as needed to ensure the efficient operation of MNBC.

• Regular/occasional attendance at meetings/events that may require work and travel outside of normal business hours.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Diploma in Hospitality, Tourism, Hotel Management, or Communications (or equivalent) from a recognized post-secondary institution.

• Minimum five (5) years of related experience in planning and executing events.

• A combination of relevant experience, education and training will be considered.

• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

• Proven ability to lead, problem-solve, and utilize team-building skills.

• Proven ability to utilize strong interpersonal skills to deal with others effectively.

• Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision.

• Proven ability to utilize, adapt, and embrace new technologies, including Word, Excel, and other

database/software required by the role.

• Previous experience working in an Indigenous Community, with strong knowledge of Métis culture and history, is considered an asset.

• Knowledge and/or awareness of the historical and contemporary contributions made by Métis people in B.C.

• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Class 5 driver’s licence may be required.

• The position may require the completion of a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
