Your New Role
This consultancy organisation is seeking a Manager / Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design delivery while overseeing a team of engineers, designers, and drafters. Reporting to the General Manager, this is a hands-on leadership role combining technical design, project management, and client engagement. You will be responsible for delivering multiple projects simultaneously – from concept design through to construction and close-out – while ensuring quality, timelines, and budget expectations are met. This role is well suited to a senior engineer ready to step into a management position, or an existing manager looking to join a growing firm with strong autonomy and influence.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Responsibilities
Support business growth through client relationship management and business development Identify and pursue new market opportunities Contribute to proposal development, fee strategies, and project planning Mentor and develop junior engineers, designers, and drafters Improve internal processes to enhance quality, efficiency, and profitability
Project Delivery Responsibilities
Lead mechanical design and project delivery across multiple active projects Manage projects from concept through design, tender, construction, and close-out Oversee and review: Load calculations Design briefs and concepts Drawings and specifications RFIs, shop drawings, and construction documentation Coordinate with: Architects, structural, and civil engineers Municipal authorities and utilities (Hydro, Enbridge, telecom providers) Conduct: Site visits and meetings Design coordination sessions (internal and external) Provide guidance during construction, including: Responding to RFIs and site instructions Reviewing change notices and shop drawings Preparing site reports and deficiency lists
Design Responsibilities
Lead design development through: 33%, 66%, and 99% design stages Perform and oversee: HVAC system design Plumbing and fire protection systems Gas and water calculations Site plan coordination Ensure deliverables are fully coordinated, code-compliant, and client-ready
What You’ll Need to Succeed
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering 7+ years’ experience in mechanical design within a consulting environment P.Eng (PEO) or eligibility strongly preferred Strong understanding of Ontario Building Code and applicable standards Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills Strong experience with: HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems Mechanical design for buildings (ICI projects) AutoCAD and Revit/BIM modelling Demonstrated experience in: Project management and delivery Team leadership and mentoring Client and stakeholder engagement
