Role Description The Volunteer French Instructor is a full-time, on-site role based in Vancouver, BC, responsible for planning and delivering French language classes to retired adult learners. Day-to-day tasks include preparing lesson plans, teaching group classes, offering individual support where needed, and adapting instruction to various levels of language proficiency. The instructor will create engaging, accessible learning materials, facilitate interactive speaking and listening activities, and encourage confidence in using French in everyday situations. Additional responsibilities include assessing learner progress, providing constructive feedback, collaborating with college staff on course scheduling, and contributing to a friendly, respectful classroom environment. Qualifications
Strong French Teaching and general Teaching skills, with the ability to instruct adult learners at different proficiency levels. Experience in Tutoring and Education, including supporting learners individually and in small groups. Background or interest in Teacher Training, mentoring peers, or sharing effective instructional practices. Proficiency in spoken and written French, with clear, patient communication in English. Ability to design structured lesson plans and use a variety of teaching methods suitable for older adults. Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and respect for diverse backgrounds and learning needs. Previous experience in adult education or community programs is an asset. Availability to volunteer on a regular full-time schedule and commitment to maintaining a positive, inclusive learning environment.
