Victim Support Worker – Co-located Unit in the Special Investigative Section of the VPD Competition #65-25

About Our Opportunity :

The Victim Support Worker works as part of a team with detectives co-located with police in the Special Investigative Section of the VPD. The team provides follow-up on intimate partner violence (IPV) cases reported to the Vancouver Police. This position can be condensed into 4 days per week with some evening work as needed. This position reports to the Manager of the Family Services of Greater Vancouver (FSGV) Victim Services Program.

Work Hours : 35 hours per week

Salary : Paygrade 11, Step 1 , $33.01 (or higher based on experience)

Location : On-site at Vancouver Police Department (Graveley St)

Education, Training, Experience

* B.S.W. or relevant B.A. from a recognized, accredited university.

* Minimum two years of experience supporting and advocating for people who have experienced intimate partner violence.

* Collaborative communication, including teamwork and cooperation, interpersonal communication, diversity and cultural agility.

* Personal effectiveness, including integrity and ethical behaviour, personal resilience, adaptability/flexibility.

* Commitment to: results focus, client-centered service, planning and organizing and technical proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.

* Maintain contact and network effectively with other community service providers and to provide a referral base for clients.

* Knowledge of the criminal justice system, including court procedures and related services.

* Understanding of other systems that may include MCFD, Corrections, VAFSS, and police services

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

* Effectively manage relationships with the IPVRAU police unit, clients, criminal justice and related systems.

* Ability to work independently and as part of the IPVRAU and FSGV Victim Services team.

* Knowledge of crisis intervention and support skills, risk assessment and ability to effectively safety plan.

* Knowledge of dynamics of intimate partner violence, criminal harassment, sexual/physical/emotional and economic abuse, including coercive control factors.

* Meet administrative expectations of agency and program including file record-keeping and data collection.

* Ability to successfully pass an enhanced policy security clearance and background check.

* Second language is an asset.

* Indigenous or BIPOC background would be considered an asset in this position
