Position Summary
The Barista / Café Attendant is responsible for delivering exceptional guest service through the preparation and service of specialty coffee beverages, teas, light meals, pastries, and retail products within the boutique hotel's lobby café. As one of the first points of contact for hotel guests and visitors, this role plays a vital part in creating a welcoming, memorable experience that reflects the VH standards of hospitality and service excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Barista Operations
- Prepare and serve a variety of specialty coffee and espresso-based beverages, including lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos, and seasonal features
- Operate and maintain coffee machine, and other café equipment
- Ensure beverage consistency, presentation, and quality according to established recipes and standards
- Monitor coffee bean, tea, and beverage inventory levels and communicate replenishment needs
Guest Service
- Welcome guests warmly and provide attentive, personalized service
- Take food and beverage orders accurately and efficiently
- Make recommendations based on guest preferences and dietary needs
- Address guest concerns courteously and professionally, escalating issues when necessary
- Promote hotel amenities, special events, and café offerings
Food Service
- Serve light food items, pastries, desserts, and grab-and-go products
- Ensure food quality, freshness, and presentation meet hotel standards
- Follow all food safety and sanitation requirements
Cash Handling & POS Operations
- Process transactions accurately using the point-of-sale system
- Handle credit, debit card, and hotel room charge transactions
- Complete shift reporting requirements
Café Presentation & Cleanliness
- Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting café environment
- Clean service areas, seating areas, equipment, and workstations throughout the day
- Ensure displays, merchandise, and pastry cases are attractive and fully stocked
- Follow all health, safety, and sanitation regulations
Inventory & Stock Management
- Restock food, beverage, retail, and operational supplies
- Assist with proper storage of products
- Support monthly inventory counts and waste reduction initiatives
- Monitor product expiration dates and adhere to stock rotation procedures
Teamwork & Hotel Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with Front Office, Housekeeping, Culinary, and other hotel departments
- Support other Food & Beverage operations as required
- Demonstrate flexibility by assisting in other outlets during periods of high business volume
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Barista, Café Attendant, Server, or Food & Beverage team member preferred
- Excellent guest service and communication skills
- Ability to multitask and remain composed in a fast-paced environment
- Basic payment possessing and POS experience
- Smart Serve Certification
