The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide comprehensive nursing services including health promotion, disease prevention, treatment, counseling/education and care planning to families with high-risk pregnancies. As an integral member of the inter-professional team, your expertise and leadership will be used to help evolve the Maternal Fetal Medicine obstetrical program, provide high quality patient and family-centred care and address the clinical concerns of the high-risk obstetrical patient. Although your primary focus will be in the Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic (MFM Clinic), you will also provide expert clinical consultation across the obstetrical program. You will work in close collaboration with the Maternal/Fetal Medicine specialists, Obstetricians, Nursing, Social Work, Dieticians, Genetics, Endocrinologists, Diagnostic Imaging and with regional partners to provide patient and family centered care.
The NP will be responsible for the ordering of relevant blood work and ultrasounds as well as follow up and interpretation of results. The NP will also be responsible to communicate care plans to the Maternal Fetal Medicine team along with referrals to appropriate specialists. The NP will function as a resource and liaison between the MFM Clinic and the community as well as triage and coordinate patient referrals and visits.
Qualifications :
- Nurse Practitioner Degree/master’s degree from an accredited University
- Experience as a registered nurse in women’s health, obstetrics or a high-risk pregnancy clinic Current BCLS
- Fetal Health Surveillance and experience interpreting non-stress tests Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification
- Canadian Nurses Association Perinatal Certification is preferred
Additional Qualifications:
- Demonstrates competency in the following areas: health assessment and diagnosis, healthcare management/ therapeutic management as well as health promotion and prevention of illness among women with high-risk pregnancies
- Understanding of Diagnostic imaging procedures including ultrasound, x-ray and echocardiograms
- Advanced knowledge, expertise and decision making in the nursing care of women who have high risk pregnancies
- Experience and ability to order appropriate tests (blood, ultrasound etc.) within the scope of an NP
- The knowledge, skill and judgment to diagnosis, treat and prescribe appropriate medications to the clients given their high-risk diagnosis
- Experience working with or developing clinics for women with high-risk pregnancies
- Effective communication skills, teaching abilities and is a reflective listener and learner Proven analytical thinking, proactive problem solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to summarize, communicate and dictate care plans for patients Ability to develop and lead interprofessional educational rounds
- Ability to lead patient care rounds to further the planning of their antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum care Experience with the consultative process that includes appropriate methods and reasoning
- Demonstrates leadership in influencing clinical practice, research and critical analysis
- Demonstrates an understanding of networking and collaboration skills in relation to the regional nature of the position
- Candidate will provide communication with patients, their families and the community and use a network of supports
- Candidate must be very well versed in a variety of diagnoses to understand the critical natural and time sensitive issues related to High-Risk Pregnancy that will impact appropriate and timely referral decisions
- Candidate must be able to run and interpret non-stress tests on High-Risk patients including twins
