Building Maintenance Person
The Maintenance Personnel plays a key role in ensuring our buildings remain safe, functional, and welcoming. This position works both independently and as part of a team, collaborating with other trades and staff. Strong customer service, proactive communication, initiative, and teamwork are essential, in addition to solid technical skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all legislated and company safety regulations.
- Safely operate tools and equipment; use required PPE.
- Inspect facilities, test equipment, and report unsafe conditions.
- Ensure tenant and coworker safety; protect belongings when working in suites.
Maintenance & Repairs
- Complete work orders such as appliance troubleshooting, minor A/C or water heater repairs, and general building fixes.
- Perform small projects including painting, carpentry, plumbing, preventative maintenance, flooring, and cleaning tasks.
- Plan and organize more advanced work orders as needed.
- Keep work areas clean and follow SOPs for quality and timely completion.
- Assist with training new staff when required.
Customer Service
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with tenants, managers, caretakers, and contractors.
Reporting & Administration
- Use a smartphone for communication and documenting work.
- Submit purchase order requests for supplies and tools.
- Complete basic logs and documentation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of apartment/commercial building maintenance experience with exposure to trades such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and/or mechanical.
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities.
- Experience with Yardi is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Ability to maintain a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Willingness to work occasional hours outside regular schedule and participate in on-call rotation.
- Physical ability to stand or walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 kg.
- Basic computer/smartphone skills.
