About the role
Education: No degree, certificate or diploma. Tasks: Calculate the cost of truck repairs and new parts if needed. Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Address customers' complaints or concerns. Coach colleagues on new methods or work techniques. Professionalism in customer service. Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy. Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on international routes. Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials. Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment. Perform brake adjustments. Perform emergency roadside repairs. Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle. Perform preventive maintenance. Receive and relay information to central dispatch. Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : AZ class license. First Aid Certificate. Hydrogen Sulphide Awareness (H2S) Certificate. Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certificate. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate. Documentation knowledge: Dangerous goods occurrence reports. Driver logbook. Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip). Maintenance and repair reports. Trip reports. Type of trucking and equipment: Dry bulk. Liquid bulk. Tractor-trailer B train. Communication systems experience: Citizens band (CB) radio. Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment. Trip recorder (on-board computer). Transportation/travel experience: Provincial/territorial. Security and safety: Basic security clearance. Driver's validity licence check. Driving record check (abstract). Drug test. Transportation/travel information: Drive manual transmission vehicle. Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Repetitive tasks. Personal suitability: Flexibility. Judgement. Reliability. Hardworking.
