Lethbridge Polytechnic offers a student-centered environment that provides practical and innovative learning experiences. The Centre for Business, Arts and Sciences (CBAS) delivers a range of certificate, diploma, university transfer and service courses to students in both its own program, and those in other Lethbridge Polytechnic programs. CBAS is comprised on the Schools of Academic Upgrading, Business, and the Liberal Arts and Life Science and the Lakeshore Campus. The Centre defines itself through excellence in teaching and learning, fostering curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking in all activities: development and renewal of courses and programs, approaches to teaching and learning, and scholarly activity and community engagement by faculty, staff and students.

Within CBAS, Lakeshore Campus is located at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre. Lakeshore Campus provides programming in three educational streams – Academic Studies, Personal Development and Job Employment Training. Each stream focuses on a different aspect of offender education and development yet function together to provide the highest quality education available to incarcerated individuals. Lethbridge Polytechnic ensures the quality and integrity of course curriculum, the experience and expertise of the instructors and the effectiveness of course delivery. The goal of Lakeshore Campus is to develop the offenders’ personal, academic, and employment skills so they can live and contribute successfully into society and avoid the negative lifestyle and behaviors that can lead back to incarceration.

CBAS is seeking applicants for the position of Program Assistant for the Lakeshore Campus, which reports to the Lakeshore Educational Coordinator. The Program Assistant is responsible for providing support in daily operations of the Offender Education Program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting the Educational Coordinator and instructors with recruitment, enrolment, record keeping and liaising with the Correctional Centre (Public Safety and Emergency Services) as well as other program support.

Position Details

This position provides program support to the Lakeshore Campus within the Centre for Business, Arts and Sciences. The incumbent will perform a wide variety of tasks requiring well developed skills in the areas of administration and organization, interpersonal and verbal communication, assessment and analysis, critical thinking and problem solving. Job duties include student recruitment, notification and enrolment, creation of class lists, submission of course rosters, certificate creation, record keeping, completion of requisitions and other program support to instructors and the Educational Coordinator. Note: this position is not remote and is located in the Lethbridge Correctional Centre.

Required Qualifications

  • 2-year diploma in Office Administration preferred: combination of experience and education may be considered.

  • 2-3 years’ experience in an office administrative environment

  • Exceptional time management, organizational, planning, communication and priority setting skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement.

  • Advanced technical skills are required including word processing, spreadsheet and database software, internet and electronic mail and other office equipment.

  • Flexibility to work within a variety of areas, both independently and in a team environment.

  • Willingness to work in a high security environment with restricted movement and with a high-risk population (i.e. contagious diseases and unpredictable behavior).

  • Successful criminal record check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Administrative experience in a post-secondary institution.

  • Prior use of Colleague software would be considered an asset.

Salary

AUPE Class Level 6 Step 1 $41,022.46 per annum.
