POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager, Legal & Risk Management, plays a key role in SickKids Foundation’s legal operations and enterprise risk management framework. Reporting to the Vice President, General Counsel & Chief Risk Officer, this role provides enterprise risk management program leadership and drives legal, operational, and project management activities. The Manager will contribute to enterprise risk management execution, optimize legal and risk processes, support drafting and review of agreements, manage workflows, provide administrative support for the Legal and Risk Department, and enhance compliance and risk culture across the organization.

The Manager, Legal & Risk Management is a pragmatic operator and trusted partner who can manage legal, risk, and governance frameworks into practical organizational practices. They demonstrate strong judgment, systems thinking, and the ability to influence in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

YOU WILL

Enterprise Risk Management

  • In collaboration with the Vice President, General Counsel, and Chief Risk Officer, the Manager leads the execution and continuous enhancement of the Foundation’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Program, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and best practices.

  • Drive the development, maintenance, and evolution of the Foundation’s risk register in partnership with senior leadership.

  • Lead the preparation of Risk Management Committee materials, including agenda, meeting minutes, and other required materials.

  • Responsible for the preparation of risk presentations, risk reports, and dashboards for the Senior Management Team and Board Committees.

  • Proactively identify emerging risks, assess impacts, and implement mitigation strategies to strengthen organizational resilience.

  • Provide ERM recommendations to the Chief Risk Officer and independently liaise and advise senior leadership on risk deliverables and problem-solving.

  • Champion continuous improvement of risk frameworks, governance practices, and reporting processes across the organization.

Legal Services

  • Drafting and review of standard-form agreements (including gift and supplier agreements), correspondence, and memorandums in collaboration with Legal Counsel.

  • Own and optimize legal intake, triage, and tracking processes to ensure efficient and high-quality service delivery.

  • Provide strategic legal and operational support through research, analysis, and preparation of briefing notes, memoranda, presentations, and internal and external communications.

  • Drive the development and continuous improvement of legal templates, playbooks, and internal guidance materials, including management of the Legal & Risk intranet and precedent system.

  • Identify and implement opportunities to modernize legal workflows, tools, and systems appropriate for a resource-conscious nonprofit environment.

  • Responsible for administrative functions for the Legal department, including maintaining and improving legal department filing systems, managing invoice and expense payments, and calendar coordination.

  • Work collaboratively with various Foundation teams build strong relationships to deliver successful legal services.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Project Management

  • Provide project management expertise for cross-functional initiatives for the full project lifecycle including developing project plans, preparing meeting agendas, facilitating project meetings.

  • Lead the tracking and monitoring project deliverables to ensure project delivery is completed within scope and established timelines, and objectives.

  • Drive structured decision-making, problem-solving, and issue resolution across complex stakeholder environments.

  • Establish and reinforce project governance, accountability, and reporting structures.

  • Engage project stakeholders and communicate project updates to ensure timely reporting and project success.

QUALIFICATIONS

While we know that for any job posting no one candidate will possess the qualifications being sought in equal measure, below is an outline of the qualifications we believe are important for a candidate to bring to the position or for the successful candidate to develop while in the role:

  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in legal operations, risk management, governance, compliance, or a related field.

  • Post-secondary education related to law, risk management, or a related discipline, law clerk designation, PMP, or equivalent considered an asset.

  • Demonstrated experience leading risk programs, governance initiatives, and demonstrated project management competencies.

  • Experience drafting and reviewing agreements and managing contract lifecycle processes.

  • Understanding of enterprise risk management frameworks and governance best practices.

  • Proven ability to drive initiatives, influence stakeholders, and operate with a high degree of autonomy and accountability.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to assess complex issues and implement practical solutions.

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills to prioritize activities, issues and multiple demands within tight deadlines.

  • Computer literacy at the intermediate to advanced level, with project management tools and MS Visio as an asset.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting to senior leadership.

  • High level of discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information.

Total Compensation Package
Expected Hiring Salary Range: $82,064 to $102,852; with the ability to progress to a maximum of $117,971. To ensure fair and equitable pay at SickKids Foundation, placement on the salary range will be based on your years of experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the Manager, Legal and Risk Management.
