Indigenous Language Immersion in Anishinaabemowin (ILIA) Recruiter/Admissions Advisor, Indigenous Student Services Centre

The ILIA Recruiter/Admissions Advisor is a full-time continuing role that will take the lead in recruiting, converting, and retaining prospective and admitted students for the newly created Indigenous Language Immersion in Anishinaabemowin (ILIA) program.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and develop relationships with key contacts in Indigenous communities and organizations to facilitate timely knowledge-sharing.
- Collaborate with external partners, school divisions, cultural organizations, and local communities to understand student and graduate needs.
- Represent Indigenous initiatives and participate in committees including Choices for Indigenous Post-Secondary Education in Manitoba (CIPEM).
- Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract students to the ILIA program, promote ILIA and other Indigenous-focused programs.
- Plan, organize, and conduct presentations, seminars, school visits, and campus tours.
- Represent the University at school fairs, career fairs, and recruitment events.
- Prepare reports summarizing school visits and outreach outcomes.
- Prepare and update presentation materials, displays, and online content for recruitment activities.
- Foster strong relationships with prospective students, providing guidance throughout recruitment and registration, referring specific inquiries when needed.
- Coordinate the assessment of prior learning for admissions and degree credit.
- Support immersive housing coordination with Campus Living.
- Work closely with internal partners to ensure a holistic approach to student engagement.
- Assist in developing admissions criteria, evaluation tools, and proficiency assessments.
- Collaborate with PACE/Community Learning to create community-accessible course sections and manage participant registration.
- Coordinate with internal partners to align Indigenous recruitment strategies with institutional goals.
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date database of contacts, inquiries, visits, and follow-ups using the University’s CRM system.
- Track and analyze recruitment data to inform future strategies.
- Maintain records related to travel, mileage, and expenditures.
- Collaborate with internal partners to ensure Indigenous representation in all media, publications, and events.
- Contribute to strategic marketing planning, annual reviews, and content updates with an Indigenous focus.
- Share responsibility for the creation and upkeep of Indigenous-focused resource materials, publications, and displays.
- Maintain current knowledge of University of Winnipeg programs, admission requirements, scholarships, bursaries, and financial aid processes.
- Understand mature student policies, prior learning assessments, and employment trends to assist with student transitions.
- Uphold cultural sensitivity and awareness of Indigenous student experiences.
- Serve as the primary contact for ILIA students.
- Address concerns, troubleshoot issues, and ensure a safe, positive, and productive student experience.
- Facilitate access to academic, personal, and cultural supports.
- Maintain awareness of student service policies, procedures, and available University supports.
- Collaborate on the development of mechanisms for regular student and faculty check-ins.
- Support planning community-building initiatives and pre- program orientations.
- Coordinate extracurricular workshops, cultural programming, and community-building activities for ILIA students, and events that connect students and graduates with career opportunities and potential employers.
- Facilitate post-program reflection sessions and gather feedback to assess program effectiveness.
- Provide timely information to students, staff, faculty, school counsellors, First Nation Education Authorities, government agencies, and the public.
- Perform administrative duties including scheduling, planning, and documenting visits and events.
- Maintain organized files, contact databases, and correspondence.
- Participate in the hiring, training, and supervision of Student Ambassadors.
- Maintain up-to-date records of student participation, progress, and feedback.
- Prepare reports and evaluations on program success, student outcomes, and opportunities for improvement.
- Assist in monitoring program budgets.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a formal training program in a related discipline.
- Experience studying or working in Anishinaabe learning environments is an asset.
- Minimum of three years of directly related experience.
- Experience working with Indigenous youth, access initiatives, at-risk student populations, adult learners, communities, and traditions.
- Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills, with the ability to build collegial relationships and work effectively within interprofessional teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively with Indigenous Elders, language teachers, and community members.
- Empathetic engagement skills when working with Anishinaabe students and other Indigenous learners.
- In-depth knowledge and sensitivity to the experiences of Indigenous students, students at risk, and the issues and opportunities facing Indigenous peoples in Canada today.
- Strong recruitment skills and knowledge of ethical recruitment practices.
- Ability to motivate, inspire, and involve individuals in programs and activities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; proficiency in Anishinaabemowin or another Indigenous language is an asset.
- Strong presentation and public-speaking abilities.
- High level of cultural awareness, client-service orientation, and professionalism when engaging with students and the public.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and time-management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving, adaptability, and decision-making skills.
- Innovative, self-motivated, and able to show initiative.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), online file sharing, email, and financial management systems, and multimedia and presentation tools.
- Sound understanding of the nature, purpose, and value of a liberal education, and the ability to communicate this effectively to students and families.
- Familiarity with educational and employment trends.
- Must maintain strict standards of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism.
- Sensitive to the needs and concerns of all students, including underrepresented and marginalized populations.
- Able to manage changing priorities and workloads under tight deadlines.

- A high level of personal integrity, flexibility, a sense of humour, and genuine enjoyment of student engagement.
- Preference will be given to qualified candidates of Indigenous ancestry.
An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Must have a valid Manitoba Driver’s License and, on occasion, may need to have access to a vehicle (subject to mileage reimbursement).
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and to travel within Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario, and Saskatchewan as required.
The salary range for this position will be from $52,579.80 to $74,729.20 annually.
Note: The work described in this posting will be conducted in-person, with an opportunity to apply for Remote Work for up to one (1) day per week.
