Lab Technician Laboratory Pathology
About the role
Position Summary
Organize and prioritise surgical pathology and cytology specimens and accessions specimens into the LIS. Organize specimens and assist the Pathologists Assistants (PA'S) by preparing tissue cassettes.
Assist the PA's by
Storing and transferring tissues to storage areas for tissue retention purposes. Ensuring that grossing supplies and materials are stocked and available. Ensuring that the accessioning and grossing areas are maintained and cleaned.
Assist the Technologists by
Changing reagents on tissue processors and automated staining platforms. Loading of slides onto the automated staining platforms. Loading of slides onto the automated cover slipper. Sorting, labelling and issuing of pathology slides. Recycle solvents and assist with the disposal of solvents and waste materials. Share technician duties with the other technician within the laboratory.
Qualifications
Successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant/Technician Program or equivalent experience required.
OSMT or CSMLS certification preferred
Minimum 1 year of experience in Pathology and Cytology lab is preferred. Knowledge of Pathology and Cytology processing, Cytology specimen preparation, and solution preparation is an asset. Must demonstrate ability to work independently and prioritize workload in a fast paced environment. Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to work cooperatively and constructively with other team members. Must understand and be committed to the mission and values of Unity Health Toronto Must be punctual and have an excellent attendance record.
