About the role
The Joint Venture Engineer role is an excellent opportunity for an individual that enjoys a wide range of Joint Venture responsibilities, has a technical background, is strategically minded and is interested in working in a team environment supporting Canlin’s operations (operated & non-operated). This role will be the primary commercial contact between internal and external stakeholders responsible for contact negotiation, administration and governance. Reporting to the Manager, Production Engineering and Joint Venture, this person will provide strategic and technical evaluation on a variety of internal and external opportunities such as production optimization, plant and gathering system debottlenecking and cost optimization. This role requires both technical and commercial skills, a solid understanding of production operations and infrastructure, a strong working knowledge of joint venture agreements, and excellent analytical, communication and collaboration skills.
Location : Fulltime permanent position located at Canlin’s downtown Calgary office.
The Role
- Interpret and govern contracts, joint interests and commercial agreements, providing guidance, generating reports, drafting communications and ensuring accurate records associated with JV agreements and related matters.
- Apply systems thinking to evaluate strategies, opportunities and risks for operated and non-operated assets.
- Prepare and review operated and non-operated project objectives, scope and risks including Mail Ballot and AFE process.
- Drive continuous improvement through curiosity and process optimization.
- Provide project economics and prepare cash flow analyses to justify internal projects, screen outside opportunities and inform negotiations.
- Optimize infrastructure systems and oversee projects to completion.
- Negotiate, analyze, draft, and manage joint venture, service, facility, unit and gas handling agreements.
- Engage, support and collaborate with internal groups including Operations, Development, Land, Accounting and Midstream Teams to identify opportunities, mitigate risks and optimize production and costs.
- Participate in and support A&D activity as the JV representative.
- Prepare and review fee adjustments, annual operating budgets, lease operating statements and equalization statements.
- Build strong relationships with Canlin’s joint interest partners and third parties.
- Chair Operating Committee Meetings and represent the company in non operated assets.
- Maintain proactive communication with joint venture owners and third parties, in collaboration with Canlin’s Land & JV teams.
- Lead and participate in the development of JV systems, tools, processes and procedures for the business.
The Person
- 8+ years progressive experience in oil and gas production, development or facilities engineering, project management and joint venture / contract governance.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Highly organized and detail oriented with strong administration skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills.
- Commercial mindset with strong negotiation skills.
- Ability to draft and interpret contracts.
- P.Eng. designation with APEGA or P. Technologist designation with ASET is preferred. Operations experience or a degree in Business or Finance with technical industry experience also considered an asset. Please note position title will be adjusted in accordance with APEGA guidelines if required.
- Hands on experience with Microsoft Office Suite, and products such as CS Land, QByte, Petrinex, Abadata, Geoscout, Aucerna Execute (AFE Navigator), ValNav, Verdazo, and Avocet.
