Operating Engineer (3rd Class), Utilities Operations AWT (Contract)
Our Utilities department is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of AWT Team Member – 3rd Class Operating Engineer. This position is a 6 month contract position, renewable for a period of up to 24 months, based on business conditions and performance. Team members who are employed on contract may be considered for permanent team member opportunities based on individual performance and favourable market conditions. Individual performance measurables include: consistent demonstration of required skills, competencies, reliability and teaming ability for the duration of their contract.
Overall Responsibility
-
Safe operation of Utilities facilities producing steam, power, bay water, wind, and compressed air and waste water treament
Major Responsibilities
- Fulfill the responsibilities as identified in the Manufacturing Process Reliability Process
- Maintain certification by rotating through the following functions at regular intervals following Standard Operating Procedures:
- Provide steam, bay water, treated water, wind, compressed air, nitrogen, and oxygen to the customers within specified standards of quality and quantity as stated in the Customer Supplier Agreement.
- Produce acceptable waste materials to be shipped offsite
- Perform routine procedures (MST) or assist maintenance personnel to ensure equipment reliability
- Fulfill the responsibilities as identified in the Utilities Health and Safety program
Education and Accreditation:
- 3rd Class Operating Engineer Certification
- Secondary School Diploma or Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate is required
- Valid Ontario driving license is required
Knowledge and Skills
The ideal candidate would possess;

Working knowledge of TSSA regulations

IMT Gas Fitter Certification
-
Relevant trade certification or demonstrated mechanical capability

Strong troubleshooting skills
-
Knowledge of high pressure steam boilers servicing industrial processes
-
Knowledge of Turbo equipment including turbo generators and large centrifugal compressors

Knowledge of Wastewater Treatment Facilities
Working Conditions:
- Physical environment including climb stairs, and ladders, pulling, pushing, and able to lift 50 pounds
- Working from heights is required
- Various personal protective equipment is required including but not limited to Chemical Goggles, SCBA, CO monitor, dust mask and ear plugs
- 20 % plant control room, 60% plant environment and 20% outdoors
Hours of Work:

Continuous 12-hour shifts in a 7 day x 24-hour timeframe

Overtime as required

8.5 hour days for training or special assignment when required
