POSITION SUMMARY:
This position performs a variety of duties pertaining to the general maintenance and operation of the Public Works yard and buildings, Transit buildings and garages and other locations. This position primarily works independently and reports to a Facilities Foreman.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform daily operations, maintenance, and servicing of HVAC systems, boilers, and mechanical equipment, ensuring compliance with provincial standards. Operate computer programs for heating and cooling. Respond to client and tenant calls to resolve issues. Assist with space allocation for storage, office moves, and parking. Maintain yard cleanliness, including snow and ice removal, weed control, and litter pickup. Monitor building systems and preventative maintenance schedules; complete minor plumbing repairs and cleaning as needed. Initiate work orders and coordinate trades for maintenance and capital projects. Operate equipment and perform routine inspections and minor repairs to maintain functionality. Ensure facility security and life safety equipment compliance; conduct fire alarm tests. Track budget variances and purchase supplies within authority limits. Perform related duties as required.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
The knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are obtained through successful completion of the Saskatchewan Fireman’s Certificate combined with three (3) years related experience. Knowledge of cleaning techniques, facility and equipment maintenance practices. Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, heating, and carpentry principles. Familiarity with Saskatchewan Boiler Act, Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. Knowledge of safe chemical handling and uses for maintenance and cleaning. Ability to perform low-pressure boiler checks and teardowns per provincial standards. Ability to operate maintenance equipment and perform routine checks per guidelines. Work independently with sound judgment and problem-solving skills. Physically able to meet job demands (e.g., lifting, ladder climbing). Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with staff and clients.
WORKING/OTHER CONDITIONS:
Must have or be willing to obtain certification to operate required equipment, First Aid Certificate, and WHIMIS Certification as required. Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have the means and ability to travel within the City of Regina (a kilometer reimbursement is provided). May be required to work non-standard hours and shift-work. A Criminal Record Check is required.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Successful candidates may be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check per the City of Regina's Criminal Record Check Policy. Proof of education is required. Additional assessments may be conducted to evaluate competencies, skills, and knowledge.
