Job Description
Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is seeking an experienced and motivatedEngineering Operations Managerto lead the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Department.
This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operation of all building systems and infrastructure across the resort. The Engineering Operations Manager plays a key leadership role in maintaining the reliability of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems while supporting Fairmont’s sustainability commitments and Parks Canada environmental requirements.
Reporting to theDirector of Engineering, this position works closely with operational departments to ensure the resort maintains the highest standards of safety, reliability, guest comfort, and environmental stewardship.
The Engineering Operations Manager oversees engineering operations for a large luxury resort property, including guest rooms, public spaces, spa and pool facilities, mechanical infrastructure, and staff accommodation facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Operations & Maintenance
- Oversee daily engineering operations for the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise property, including responding to guest inquiries and complaints, dispatching engineering requests, and responding to operational emergencies.
- Ensure safe and efficient operation of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building systems across the resort.
- Lead preventative maintenance programs for guest rooms and public areas to maintain luxury guest experience standards.
- Monitor and respond to building management systems (BMS), alarms, and facility monitoring systems.
- Support the operation of specialized systems including pools, spa facilities, refrigeration systems, mechanical plants, and water treatment systems.
- Oversee maintenance of staff accommodation facilities and coordinate maintenance activities with the housing team.
- Dispatch maintenance staff and contractors to address operational issues in both guest and staff Collaborate with the Director of Engineering to review Employee Engagement Survey (EES) results, develop departmental action plans, and support the successful implementation of initiatives to improve employee engagement and team performance.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and support engineering team members including supervisors, technicians, and maintenance personnel.
- Assist in developing staff schedules and operational coverage for a 24/7 resort operation.
- Provide technical guidance and training to engineering staff.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training of engineering employees.
- Conduct regular performance management activities including quarterly one-on-one meetings with team members.
- Address employee relations issues and collaborate with People & Culture on performance management when required.
Safety & Compliance

Ensure engineering operations comply with workplace safety regulations and hotel safety policies.

Environmental Stewardship & Sustainability
- Support environmental protection initiatives consistent withFairmont’s Sustainability Partnership Program.
- Ensure mechanical operations support water conservation, energy efficiency, and waste reduction goals.
- Assist with implementation of environmental procedures including spill prevention, water management, and environmental monitoring programs.
- Work collaboratively with environmental and sustainability teams to ensure compliance withParks Canada environmental expectations.
Asset Management & Capital Projects
- Lead guest-facing capital initiatives and infrastructure improvement projects.
- Monitor equipment performance and identify maintenance or replacement requirements.
- Assist in managing maintenance budgets and cost control measures.
- Support coordination of contractors and external service providers for all guest-facing issues.
- Participate in capital planning and asset lifecycle management initiatives.
Guest Experience Support
- Ensure engineering operations support exceptional guest comfort and experience.
- Respond to guest service issues related to building systems, utilities, or facilities.
- Work closely with hotel operations teams to minimize operational disruptions.
Emergency Response

Operational Responsibilities & Administrative Duties:
Daily Responsibilities
- Review and respond to departmental emails and correspondence.
- Review guest recovery and service score reports and prepare relevant information for daily operational meetings.
- Review newly submitted maintenance tickets and work orders through hotel service platforms (TR/Alice/RSM) and assign tasks to maintenance staff or contractors as required.
- Conduct daily engineering morning meetings with maintenance staff to review priorities and operational updates.
- Attend the dailyMorning Operations Meetingwith hotel leadership to review guest feedback scores, operational updates, and important guest arrivals.
- Provide engineering updates related to building systems, water shutdowns, generator testing, or emergency maintenance issues affecting hotel operations.
- Monitor preventative maintenance (PM) rooms and inspect rooms undergoing maintenance to ensure quality standards are met.
- Update preventative maintenance tracking systems and maintenance logs.
Weekly Responsibilities
- Coordinate preventative maintenance room scheduling with Front Office leadership to ensure operational efficiency.
- Meet with the Housing Department to review staff accommodation maintenance challenges and improvement plans.
- Meet with the engineering leadership team to review operational issues, maintenance priorities, and project updates.
- Participate in weeklyCapital Projects Meetingsto review project progress and planning.
- Coordinate contractors performing maintenance or capital work within guest areas.
Monthly Responsibilities
- Organize monthly engineering communication meetings to review operational performance, safety updates, and departmental initiatives.
- Facilitate lead-hand meetings to review operational priorities and team performance.
- Support employee recognition initiatives such asLead Hand / Heartist of the Month.
- Review and update engineering on-call rotation schedules and communicate updates to relevant departments.
Quarterly Responsibilities
- Conduct one-on-one meetings with maintenance staff to review performance and professional development.
- Identify recurring maintenance trends and develop corrective action plans.
- Organize team-building activities to support employee engagement within the engineering department.
Contractor Coordination & Facility Projects
The Engineering Operations Manager coordinates contractors and service providers responsible for addressing operational issues within guest areas and staff accommodation facilities.
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating contractors to resolve maintenance concerns reported through hotel service platforms or operational departments.
- Managing repair and maintenance programs within staff accommodation facilities.
- Overseeing repairs to guest-facing infrastructure such as windows, mechanical systems, and spa facilities.
- Coordinating project work including flooring repairs, steam room upgrades, and facility improvements.
- Ensuring contractor work is completed safely and in compliance with hotel and Parks Canada standards.
Qualifications

Post-secondary education inEngineering, Building Systems, Mechanical Technology, or a related field.

Minimum5–7 years of experience in engineering or facilities management, preferably in hospitality or large-scale facilities.
