Custodian

Position Summary The responsibility of the Custodian (Sanitarian/Pallet Maintenance) is to perform general warehouse cleaning duties that help keep the facility in a clean and orderly condition.

Specific Responsibilities And Functions

  • Perform general warehouse cleaning duties as per the Master Sanitation schedule and janitorial SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, vacuum, dust, and sanitize various floors of the warehouse, office space, lunchrooms, and washrooms.
  • Successfully complete Preventive Maintenance (PMs) that are issued on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis within set timeframes.
  • Empty recycle and garbage containers regularly.
  • Check and maintain inventory levels of custodial supplies and replenish when required.
  • Clean all warehouse zones, pull and clean pallets, dust/clean warehouse floors; average of 10 bays/hour.
  • Assist with spills in a prompt and efficient manner.
  • Empty wrap bins and sweep debris from aisles.
  • Outside cleaning may be required.
  • Other duties assigned as required.
  • Adhere to the mission and cornerstone values and applicable practices of the organization.
  • Adherence to food safety GMP’s as per Gordon Food Service Distribution Center Food Safety program.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to three (3) different temperature zones within the warehouse.
  • Grocery area in the warehouse is room temperature; varies from cold in the winter and warm in the summer.
  • Cooler area in the warehouse is approximately 1 or 2 degrees C.
  • Freezer area in the warehouse is approximately –15 degrees C. Some areas of the freezer can get as low as -23 degrees C.
  • Moderate noise level.
  • CSA approved steel-toed safety boots must be worn on the warehouse floor.
  • Occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs and exposure to various food-safe cleaning detergents and soaps.
  • Must be able to operate various forklifts, battery changer, and floor scrubber. Some basic knowledge of computer operations is required.
