Reporting to: Associate Dean of AcademicVocational Programs

Salary:

$47.83 - $56.75/hr, depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation pay and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay. The period of campus closure that occurs between Christmas and New Year's Day is unpaid time. There is an opportunity to contribute to the College Pension Plan.

Description:

NLC's Early Childhood Education and Care program requires an instructor for the delivery of ECED 109A: Practicum 1. This course offers supervised practical experience working with young children in an early learning setting. Emphasis is on observing early learning and care in action as students explore the operations of an early learning and care program. Students will apply beginning skills and reflective practice to facilitate developmentally and culturally appropriate early learning and care. The course is delivered on Wednesday afternoons from 1:15 – 2:40pm. Travel to different centers in order to visit students and mentors during normal business hours will be required.

The contract is for a total of 96 hours over a 16-week period. No hours are worked over the Christmas closure (Dec 25.25 – Jan 1.26).

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master's degree in Early Care and Learning or in a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's degree may be considered based on applied experiences.
  • Early Childhood EducationCare (ECEC) Diploma with Infant/Toddler and Special Needs Educator Certification from the BC ECE Registry (or proof of eligibility for certification).
  • 3-5 years' experience working in a licensed Early Care and Learning Centre.
  • Current, valid driver's license
  • Working knowledge of the BC Early Learning Framework.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Committed to student motivation and success; and the
  • Ability to collaborate as an effective team member.

Preferred:

  • Instructional experience in a comparable or related post-secondary program.
  • Working knowledge of the BC Education Plan.
  • Working knowledge of Child Care Licensing legislation and the role of the BC Ministry of Children Development's ECE Registry.
  • Membership in the Early Childhood Educators of BC.
  • BC Campus Facilitating Online Learning (FLO) workshop (or equivalent); and
  • Experience instructing a culturally diverse group of students, including Indigenous and international students.
