ISL’s Edmonton Municipal Team is part of the larger Water Team which is made up of 23 individuals who have close working relationships centered around water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects. We have expertise in water and wastewater treatment, pumping stations and reservoirs, linear infrastructure for collection and distribution and of course water system planning.
- Diverse, High-Impact Projects: We are involved in major infrastructure projects such as the Yellowhead Trail Freeway Conversion, EPCOR flood mitigation, LRT expansion, and critical water supply and drainage infrastructure projects like Sylvan Lake Northeast Gateway Water Supply Main, which are described as impactful and complex.

A Little About You
Your cover letter should demonstrate:
- A municipal project you have worked on that you wish to highlight.
- Why you want to bring your expertise to ISL
Your resume should show us:
- P.Eng. (Professional Engineer) or P.Tech. designation, with openness to both considered.
- Degree in civil or other relevant engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant engineering experience supporting Municipal Infrastructure projects where there may have been a focus on water distribution systems, sewer design and stormwater management.
- Any design and/or field experience, preferably related to municipal systems, including water, wastewater and stormwater systems
- Project management experience, including design coordination and contract administration.
- Familiarity with construction contracts, interpretation of drawings and contract documents, and contractor submittals and progress claims.
- Ability to mentor junior staff, take on technical leadership, and provide QA oversight.
- Strong design experience in water distribution, wastewater collection, stormwater drainage systems.
- Proficiency with Civil 3D, ArcGIS and or comparable design/drafting software.
- Client and stakeholder engagement experience
Bonus points for:
- Experience with business development and proposal writing
- Examples of previous water/sewer projects in the Edmonton region
- Showcasing knowledge wastewater collection and stormwater drainage system design
- Experience with PCSWMM, InfoWorks ICM and other hydraulic modeling software
- Examples of successful collaboration on multidisciplinary teams, where your technical leadership made a difference.

Responsibilities:
Municipal Engineering
- Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers in the planning, analysis, and design of urban hydraulic systems.
- Guide the design of water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure, ensuring quality and consistency across deliverables.
- Review grading designs for surface drainage and roadway projects prepared by team members.
- Lead cost estimation efforts by validating assumptions and reviewing outputs from the design team.
- Oversee hydrologic and hydraulic modeling work, ensuring appropriate methodologies and software tools (e.g., MIKE URBAN, InfoWorks ICM, XP-SWMM, PCSWMM) are applied effectively.
- Coordinate utility reviews and crossing agreement preparation, providing strategic input and quality assurance.
- Review and approve engineering reports, drawings, and documentation for completeness and technical accuracy.
Project Delivery
- Lead proposal development in response to RFPs, providing strategic direction and technical input.
- Ensure adherence to quality control procedures for drawings and reports across the team.
- Oversee preparation of procurement documents, including specifications and tender coordination.
- Provide senior-level contract administration support during construction, including review of contractor submittals, progress claims, and interpretation of contract documents.
Examples of the projects you may work on:
- Drainage designs and other utility relocation for major roadway and LRT projects
- Flood mitigation (dry/wet ponds, sewer upgrades and Low Impact Development (LID))
- Utility rehabilitation and renewal
- Regional water and wastewater systems
- Pump stations and force mains (new and rehabilitation)
