Role overview:

You thrive in an environment where learning new technologies, building production ready and performant applications is part of your day-to-day job, and building an ecosystem for providing financial services to FinTechs across Canada excites you. You are passionate about APIs, and you are comfortable working across technology and business teams to drive solutions, help design solid technical solutions with security, performance, resiliency in mind, and know the difference between a proof of concept and production grade code. And more than that, you can work hands-on with your team, enjoy the dynamic of working in a team, and understand the importance of teamwork and collaboration in delivering Agile projects.

About the day-to-day:

  • Lead development teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing systems.
  • Collaborate with architecture and other leads to vet technologies, set standards, and align integration timelines.
  • Oversee development quality through code reviews, release coordination, and clear user story definition.
  • Actively support teams in solving complex technical challenges and integrating new technologies.
  • Ensure adherence to best practices in code quality, security, testing, and documentation.
  • Partner with business and technical teams to build the next-gen Deposits ecosystem.
  • Define and align product and technology roadmaps with long-term business goals.
  • Establish and maintain development standards, guidelines, and team-wide consistency.
  • Explore, validate, and implement new technologies, translating concepts into production-ready solutions.

About the qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in software development.
  • Experience with cloud-native microservices and building scalable, resilient systems.
  • 2+ years working in financial institutions or fintech.
  • 6+ years designing and delivering APIs using RESTful standards, Webhooks, GraphQL, and Websockets.
  • Skilled in OpenAPI 3.x for authoring, implementing, and consuming APIs.
  • Experience publishing high-throughput, public-facing APIs with strong security and performance.
  • Background in Retail or Commercial Banking, Operations, or Compliance is an asset.
  • Experience with customer-facing APIs and backend systems.
  • Proven leadership in development teams, including design, code reviews, and delivery.
  • Comfortable working with cross-functional teams (Product, QA, DevOps).
  • Passionate about defining development standards, API contracts, and release processes.
  • Technical expertise in AWS (EKS, API Gateway, WAF, ALB, NLB, VPC, SNS), Kubernetes, and Docker.
  • Strong backend development skills in Java (JDK 17/21), Spring Boot, Spring Web/Data/Integration.
  • Proficient in OpenAPI (contract/code-first), MapStruct, and ModelMapper.
  • Experience with relational databases (Oracle, MSSQL) and in-memory databases (Redis).
  • Familiar with messaging systems like ActiveMQ and SQS.
  • Deep understanding of OAuth2, OIDC, and JWT from both client and server perspectives.
  • Skilled in designing high-performance microservices, batch components, and integrating third-party software.
  • Experience collaborating with data engineering teams and contributing to data warehouses.
  • Knowledge of secure application development and design best practices (e.g., components, class diagrams).
