Intermediate Accountant

VineHR is working with our client to find an Intermediate Accountant to join their accounting and finance team at their Burnaby head office. This is a newly created role offering variety in a complex and dynamic business. The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Corporate FP&A, the Intermediate Accountant will play a key role in supporting sales tax compliance, accounts payable oversight, month-end closing, and audit support.

Key Responsibilities

• Support indirect tax compliance activities, including review of sales tax journal entries and filings
• Maintain documentation related to PST exemptions and support compliance requirements as needed
• Assist with audit requests, including liaising with auditors and providing supporting documentation
• Provide oversight and review of accounts payable processes, including invoice coding, subledger review, and payment batches
• Support month-end close activities, including review/approval of journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting packages
• Prepare and extract reporting data from the general ledger, including audit samples and GL extracts

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a self-motivated accounting professional with strong attention to detail, the ability to manage competing priorities, and a collaborative approach. You should also have:

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Post-secondary education in relevant area such as business administration, accounting or finance and a recognized accounting designation, or actively working towards the CPA designation.
• Experience reviewing sales tax filings and supporting compliance processes
• Exposure to audit support and working directly with auditors
• Strong working knowledge of accounts payable and payment workflows
• Month-end close experience (journal entries, reconciliations, reporting)
• Experience with GP (Great Plains) or similar ERP systems is an asset

Location

This position is an on-site position at our client’s head office in Burnaby with the option of working one day from home after probation.

Compensation

Comprehensive compensation package including base salary in the range of $60,000 - 65,000 per year depending on experience, bonus, extended benefits, vacation and other perks.
