About the Role
As Director of Credit Risk, you will play a critical role in shaping and leading Mogo’s credit risk strategy across the customer lifecycle. You’ll drive underwriting, pricing, segmentation, and decisioning for our lending products while overseeing performance of the credit portfolio. Reporting to the VP of Risk, you will lead and build a high-impact team of to ensure Mogo continues to scale profitably and responsibly.

This role also owns the development and tracking of credit models and will lead Mogo’s Decision Science practice. You’ll partner cross-functionally with key stakeholders, including close collaboration with the Collections team to develop and refine collection strategies.

What You’ll Do

  • Underwriting & New Accounts: Define and optimize credit strategies for new account approvals, ensuring robust risk controls while enabling growth.
  • Credit Policy & Segmentation: Develop, refine, and monitor credit policies and customer segmentation strategies to enhance risk differentiation.
  • Pricing & Limits: Design credit limit frameworks to maximize risk-adjusted returns.
  • Model Decisioning: Build, own, and continuously improve credit risk models, decision thresholds, and cutoffs.
  • Portfolio Performance: Monitor KPIs, analyze trends, and deliver actionable insights to maintain portfolio quality and profitability.
  • Collections Strategy: Partner with the Collections team to develop data-driven, customer-focused strategies that reduce delinquencies and charge-offs.
  • Decision Science Leadership: Lead and grow Mogo’s Decision Science capabilities, embedding advanced analytics into the credit decisioning framework.
  • Opportunities & Challenges: This is a strategic role ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced, data-rich environments. You’ll have the opportunity to lead Mogo’s risk evolution, drive innovation in subprime lending, and help scale a high-impact credit business - all while navigating the unique challenges of a competitive and regulated market.

What You’ll Bring

  • 7+ years of experience in consumer lending or credit risk, with a proven track record in subprime or fintech environments.
  • Strong experience across the credit lifecycle: origination, underwriting, pricing, portfolio management, and collections.
  • Hands-on experience with credit risk models and credit bureau data (traditional and alternative).
  • Advanced proficiency with SQL, Python, and experience using platforms like Snowflake and Looker.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills - experience building, mentoring, and developing high-performing risk teams.
  • Ability to synthesize complex data into clear strategies and communicate them to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or Computer Science.
