We are hiring a temporary part-timeSous ChefforThe Residence at Homewood Health Centrein Guelph. The Residence is a private boutique Residence on Homewood’s grounds with the capacity to accommodate nine guests at a time and requires discretion and professionalism as you interact regularly with the guests. As the Sous Chef, under the leadership of the Executive Chef, you will coordinate, participate, plan and supervise the production, preparation and presentation of food to ensure that consistent high quality meals are prepared and served to clients. This includes, in the absence of the Executive Chef, providing direction to onsite food service employees assigned to work in The Residence as well as actively supporting the Executive Chef in managing all aspects pertaining to the daily operation of the kitchen & dining room at The Residence.

The Residenceis a premier and highly specialized facility focused on delivering world-class, medically based treatment for mental health, addiction and concurrent conditions in a private, highly personalized and luxurious residential setting. It is staffed by a dedicated team of nationally recognized medical and clinical experts including psychiatrists, physicians, and psychologists with access to national experts in various mental health and addiction specialties at the Homewood Health Centre. All activities are focused on helping clients build the skills they need to achieve and sustain recovery.

This is a casual part time position with the ability to work varied hours including (week days 11am-6:30pm, Saturdays 7:30am-6:30pm, and Sunday shifts are 8:00am-6:30pm).

What you’ll be doing:

  • Support the development and management of all food planning, production & preparation activities
  • Support the development and establishment of exemplary food presentation standards and techniques
  • Support & Adhere to high level of service principles, quality culinary standards & operations management for kitchen and dining at the Residence
  • Development and facilitation of culinary groups in conjunction with the Executive Chef
  • Collaboration with staff and clients on meal programming on admission and throughout the admission, as required
  • Receiving through both direct deliveries/pick up or via interaction and collaboration with the Homewood Health Centre nutrition services and outside vendors
  • Accountable for adherence to Infection Control, Occupational Health and Safety, Safe Food Handling and applicable health centre policies & procedures
  • Follow any policies, procedures, and any applicable collective agreements that may impact staff and the operation of the department; raise for discussion and conclusion any issues that arise in the interpretation and application of such policies

What we're looking for:

  • Completion of a Chef & Culinary Program from an accredited college or cooking school preferred
  • 3+ years Sous Chef experience in a high-end setting
  • Have knowledge of special diets and allergens
  • Cultural Culinary knowledge would be an asset
  • Experience in a specialized setting with knowledge of addictions or mental health would be an asset
  • Highly professional individual with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Adaptable and flexible to the unique and changing needs of the guests at The Residence
  • Unprecedented ability to be professional, discreet and sensitive
  • Demonstrate commitment to Homewood’s Core Competencies
