About the role
Job Description Some of what you will do: This individual works with both the business and technical teams to build, maintain, and evolve Staples Canada’s Email Service Provider (ESP) and related MarTech capabilities. The role is responsible for enabling the Email Marketing team with operational support, improving platform functionality, managing data flows, and launching new features to support customer engagement across B2B and B2C.
This position will focus on developing and executing a product roadmap for the ESP, ensuring integrations with first-party data sources, CDP, and CRM systems, and driving personalization and automation at scale. The individual will collaborate across Marketing, Engineering, and external vendors to modernize and optimize our email and transactional communications platform, while ensuring stability and performance of existing systems.
Ultimately, this role is accountable for planning, development, integration, optimization, and ongoing support of email and marketing technology capabilities that are critical to the business.
Specifically, You Will Product Management & Roadmap
- Develop and own the product roadmap for ESP capabilities to support new email marketing projects, personalization initiatives, and data-driven customer experiences.
- Gather requirements, build business cases, and prioritize enhancements in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Provide operational support for building and maintaining email flows, signup forms, batch campaigns, and triggered journeys within the ESP.
- Evangelize and execute the personalization roadmap for Email Marketing to drive more relevant, engaging, and measurable customer experiences.
Data, Integrations & Technical Enablement
- Manage and optimize data pipelines into the ESP (e.g., Klaviyo), ensuring seamless integration with first-party data, customer master, CDP, and CRM.
- Oversee integration of behavioral, opt-in, and transactional data to enable advanced segmentation and automated flows across B2B and B2C.
- Partner with internal Engineering and external vendors to extend ESP capabilities (e.g., API enablement, personalization, re-activation, and triggered flows).
Operational Excellence & Cross-Functional Support
- Provide extended support for business teams in managing transactional communication flows (e.g., order cancellations, invoice errors, service notifications).
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues in batch and transactional flows, ensuring reliability of customer communications.
- Manage cross-functional relationships with Marketing, Technology, and Customer Service to deliver scalable, effective solutions.
- Stay informed on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in Email Marketing and MarTech to shape ongoing innovation.
Some Of What You Need
- BS/BA degree or equivalent (MBA an asset).
- Agile certification an asset.
- 3+ years’ experience as a Product Manager
- 3+ years’ experience managing ESPs or MarTech platforms as a Product Owner. Hands-on experience with Klaviyo an asset.
- Proven experience with managing data flows, integrations with APIs
- Familiarity with CDPs and CRM an asset
- Experience with both Agile and Scrum from a Product Owner Perspective
- Demonstrated success in working within cross functional teams and effective project management and analytical/decision-making skills
- Experience with email marketing platforms tools, open-source technologies, public/private cloud technologies.
