Summary

Scope

Working as part of the management team, the Program Coordinator for Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY), will supervise a team of two childcare workers (HIPPY staff) in the operations and execution of all components of the HIPPY program. This will include communication with partners, service coordination, coaching and regular follow up to ensure clients are engaged and participating in the program. Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Program Coordinator manages the quality and delivery of services, prepares reports, maintains required documentation, and ensures the team is meeting all program requirements. The Childcare Workers (CNC) are responsible to visit the homes of newcomer mothers with children ranging in age from 3- to 5-years-old. During home visits the CNC worker will deliver the HIPPY program to mothers, help mothers teach their 3- to 5-year- old children and prepare them for school.

Responsibilities

The HIPPY Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Attending in-person pre-service training
  • Executing the HIPPY program in accordance with the terms specified in the contractual agreement
  • Supervising and training the Home Visitors, which includes planning and execution of appropriate staff development plans
  • Making periodic home visits
  • Planning and executing bi-weekly group meetings with HIPPY participants that include role- playing and provision of enrichment activities
  • Data entry
  • Planning and preparing for initial and regular site visits from program partner
  • Working in conjunction with local HIPPY advisory committee
  • Establishing effective partnerships with other human service organizations to ensure optimal service delivery to participating families
  • Participating in local and national HIPPY conferences, in-service training and meetings

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood, elementary or adult education, social work or any other related field.
  • Prior experience in one or more of the following areas is an asset: educational administration, community mobilization, parent empowerment/family support, or child/family advocacy.
  • Fluency in Arabic is an asset.
  • Familiarity with issues facing newcomers in Canadian urban setting and systemic barriers facing integration in education, social, cultural, and economic aspects of Canadian life.
  • Excellent interpersonal, cross cultural, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules on as needed basis.
  • Reliable transportation, valid Driver’s License.

Other requirements

  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check (completed when offer is made)
