Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About The Role

Schedule: 14 on/14 off -12-hour days

Position Reports To: Chief Engineer

Position Overview:

The Senior Underground Mine Technician is responsible for leading the site’s ventilation and survey team, ensuring the safe, efficient, and accurate collection and maintenance of mine survey and ventilation data. This role provides technical leadership, oversees day-to-day field activities of technicians, maintains ventilation models, and ensures all regulatory and operational requirements are met. The incumbent will play a key role in mentoring technical staff, maintaining data integrity, and supporting mine planning and engineering functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain mine site Ventsim models, complete ventilation design packages, and troubleshoot ventilation system issues.
  • Develop the 24-month mine ventilation plan and include required construction in the mine plan to reduce potential impact to production.
  • Support the Life of Mine planning work through collection of data and identification of KPIs, trends and risks within the ventilation systems.
  • Train ventilation staff and underground supervisors (and others) on correct use, care and calibration of measurement tools, as well as correct data collection techniques.
  • Accompany ventilation planners executing regulatory ventilation data collection, per recommended schedule, to monitor procedures and quality of collection.
  • Data collection and analysis, on a quarterly basis, to understand the efficiency and any changes that may be occurring within the ventilation system.
  • Develop scopes of work, as assigned, that support changes to ventilation systems, and other varying projects.
  • Ensure daily and weekly survey pickups are completed accurately and uploaded in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate and review month-end survey activities, ensuring accurate reporting of mine progress and alignment with engineering and production records.
  • Ensure survey databases maintenance, control networks, and instrument calibration and maintenance are being performed.
  • Assist the Project Lead with engineering and project management on varying underground projects.
  • Liaise with consultants to generate engineering design drawings.

Qualifications

  • Preferably 5-7 years of experience working in an Underground mine

  • Knowledge of Underground Mine ventilation systems, mine design and a high-level understanding of underground mining activities.

  • Knowledge of and ability to use standard computer applications including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, VentSim, and VNetPC.

  • Experience with 3D mine design software (Deswik preferred)

  • Project experience is considered an asset.

  • Stong analytical, problem solvince, orgnizational and decision making abilities.

  • Must possess effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making abilities

  • Post-Secondary diploma in Mining Technology

  • Possess an Ontario Underground Common Core
