About the role

OVERVIEW

The Senior Finance Manager, Business Intelligence & Analytics role is a key contributor within the BIR – Program Reporting and Analysis team under the umbrella of the Finance department, where new business ideas and partnerships are incubated and scaled. The Senior Manager, Eastern Programs’ focus areas include providing visibility and insights for recycling-related cost modelling, insights development, and fee setting primarily through Business Intelligence tools like Power BI, Python, ML, and AI, as well as Excel-based modelling. This will involve the creation and management of cost/financial models, the development of formal processes, and the support of other tools to optimize business operations. This role will be involved in strategic projects and work closely with business stakeholders, using data to identify and translate business needs and opportunities into actionable initiatives. The candidate will report directly to the Director of Reporting & Analysis, Eastern Programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Champion a team by leading them through a transition and provide technical and business support

  • Understand, assess and automate existing manual operational processes and present back on time savings gained through modernization of business operations

  • Translate producer, supply chain and other internal/external data into analytical projects (to include refining the models and asking the ‘right questions’)

  • Use and analyze data from multiple data warehouses and present statistically strong analysis to a wide range of business stakeholders

  • Proactively identify opportunities within each program to provide additional insights for the wider business

  • Drive new analytical initiatives and projects aimed at improving organizational efficiency and shaping a circular economy

  • Identify, support, and lead projects aimed at scaling up the way the recycling organization leverages on data, insights, and intelligence.

  • Design champion / challenger strategies that lead to ongoing learning and improvement

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree ideally in a business or quantitative subject (e.g., business administration, , engineering, science, economics, or finance)

Experience

  • 5+ years of progressive expertise as a BI Analyst in analytics/insights/strategy
  • Minimum of 5 years of the analyst team leadership and support experience
  • Direct experience with BI & analytics tools (Python, SQL, Amazon RedShift or Power BI)
  • Strong experience in finding data insights and provide business recommendation to the business.

Knowledge**/Competencies/Skills**

  • Good stakeholder management experience. Comfortable presenting to senior leadership and C-suite
  • Good understanding of statistical modelling knowledge or any machine learning technique knowledge is a plus (regression, logistic regression, random forest, etc.)
  • A hacker’s mindset – the ability to build simple but clever and elegant solutions to opportunities while using creative problem-solving automation, programming, and prototyping.
  • Excellent communicator with superior written, verbal, presentation, storytelling and interpersonal communication skills
  • Data driven in insight generation, decision making and performance measurement with a full data-insights lifecycle mindset and experience.
  • Extreme comfort in ambiguous, demanding environment
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and coordinate resources

Assets

  • Experience with recycling

  • Knowledge of machine learning

  • Automation experience

  • Agile and sprint development experience

  • Master’s degree in Business, Analytics, Statistics

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • All CM employees work 40 hours per week, remotely from a home office environment.
