The Ministry of Social Services’ Strategic Management Branch is seeking a critical thinker to support the ministry’s intergovernmental, legislative, and strategic policy initiatives. As a Policy Consultant reporting to the Manager, Intergovernmental and Legislative Strategy, you will work closely with ministry colleagues and senior leaders, as well as with intergovernmental colleagues across the country, to advance strategic initiatives.

The position requires strong analytical and research skills, as well as outstanding written and verbal communication abilities, to be able to provide advice on complex issues to senior leadership and colleagues. You will have demonstrated the ability to think both operationally and strategically and will be comfortable providing strategic policy advice on the ministry’s intergovernmental portfolio, supporting the ministry’s legislative activities, and undertaking policy analysis as required. Given the collaborative nature of strategic policy development, this position will require superior interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships among ministry colleagues, and with other stakeholders and partners, including those in other jurisdictions.

The successful candidate will participate in intergovernmental tables, be able to identify areas for intergovernmental collaboration, and analyze how various initiatives impact and relate to the work of Social Services. A graduate degree in public administration, social sciences, or humanities is beneficial but not required, as a combination of related experience and education will also be considered. The position requires prior experience in and knowledge of policy development (including Cabinet and decision-making processes), knowledge of intergovernmental relations and structures, as well as awareness of current demographic trends and issues.
