About the role

Adams Lake Indian Band is seeking one fulltime highly motivated and culturally sensitive Community Health Nurse. The Community Health Nurse is a member of the Adams Lake Indian Band Sexqeltqin Health Center team who will deliver a community health/ Maternal Child Health Registered Nurse, which will include health promotion, health education, communicable disease education, immunization and vaccination delivery and maternal Child health, pre and post-natal support. This position reports to the Senior Health Officer. You will be part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team of professionals and community partners to deliver holistic, low barrier and person-centred care.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES:

This position is rooted in respect, dignity, cultural safety, and advocacy. The nurse will support healing and wellness through culturally aligned care, while upholding client confidentiality and professional integrity. This role demands a high level of trust, discretion, and engagement in sensitive care situations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Adams Lake Indian Band policies and procedures
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the "Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia"
  • Reports and charts in designated Electronic Medical Record System (EMR)
  • Provide primary care services to women, infants, and children, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and referral.
  • Conduct prenatal and postnatal assessments and monitor fetal and infant development.
  • Administer immunizations and monitor vaccination schedules.
  • Conduct well-baby and well-child check-ups, including developmental screenings.
  • Provide counseling and education on topics such as breastfeeding, nutrition, contraception, and family planning.
  • Screen for maternal mental health concerns (e.g., postpartum depression) and refer as needed.
  • Monitor growth and developmental milestones and address delays.
  • Collaborate with physicians, social workers, and allied health professionals to ensure coordinated care
  • Completes a structured client assessment that includes ongoing re-assessment and determine client need and service allocation
  • Promotes the Sexqeltqin and Nexe7yelst Health Centers activities
  • Responds to feedback from clients to improve services and access to services
  • Incorporates traditional values and methods into programming plans
  • Provides emergency support for harm reduction strategies in individuals exhibiting high risk behaviours with referrals when needed, including support of their family members
  • Participants in program planning and health plan development to enhance and improve the social determinants of health with
  • Maintains the work area in a clean and professional manner
  • Performs other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor Degree in Nursing
      • Currently registered and in good standing as a registered nurse in the Province of British Columbia
  • Current CPR-C/AED certificate
  • Immunization Competency Certification or willing to obtain
  • Experience in a First Nations environment an asset
  • Possess strong computer skills using MS Office software and Community Health Record (EMR)
  • Must be familiar with the goals and objectives of the FNHA/Health Policies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills to achieve desired results
  • Diplomacy, tact and confidentiality in dealing with a variety of people and information
  • Reliability and dependability
  • Self-motivated and an ability to work independently
  • Strong interpersonal skills

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Those normally associated with a typical health clinical office environment. Continuous visual concentration on computer/laptop. Travel to home visits and setting up health clinics.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Some work is performed in a typical clinical office environment. Home visits, clinics and exposure to infectious diseases and sicknesses. Traveling between communities.

EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE

Office - Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and the EMR

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license

An ALIB vehicle will be provided when needed.

BONE FIDE JOB REQUIREMENTS

Current Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector clearance, with results acceptable to ALIB.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Full time, permanent position

Wage range: $45.00 – $50.00 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience

Hours per week: 75 hours bi-weekly (max 37.5 hrs./week), with flexibility in hours/days of work.
