As we continue to expand, we are building a world-class commercial team and are seeking a Director of Field Sales to help lead that growth.

The Director of Field Sales will be responsible for executing Rubicon’s sales strategy and ensuring our portfolio achieves maximum visibility, availability, and velocity across retail networks nationwide. This role will lead and coach Regional Sales Managers and Territory Sales Representatives to deliver on revenue, distribution, and market share objectives. Success in this position requires strong leadership, deep understanding of retail execution, and the ability to navigate complex regulations while ensuring our brands are consistently and compliantly represented. The Director will also work closely with private retailers to secure listings, maximize promotional investments, and leverage category insights to drive sustainable growth.

Responsibilities

  • Turn strategy into execution by leading a team that ensures products are on the shelf, priced correctly, promoted effectively, and driving sales at the store level.
  • Develop and execute the field sales strategy to align with company revenue, distribution, and brand-building objectives.
  • Translate corporate sales targets into regional, provincial, and retail-level execution plans.
  • Partner with Marketing, Trade Marketing, and Sales Operations to ensure campaigns are effectively executed in stores.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Regional Sales Managers (RSMs) and Territory Sales Representatives (TSRs).
  • Establish clear performance metrics and KPIs for the sales team (distribution, rate of sale, shelf share, promotional execution).
  • Drive a high-performance sales culture built on accountability for goals and KPIs.
  • Spend approximately 50% of time in the field, working alongside RSMs and TSRs to train, coach, and gather insights to bring back to the organization.

Knowledge & Experience

  • University degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Marketing, or a related field, or 3+ years leading a large sales team in Cannabis or CPG.
  • Strong understanding of the Canadian cannabis industry and regulations.
  • Established connections within the cannabis retail network across provinces is an asset.
  • Extensive experience leading large and dispersed teams to achieve aggressive growth targets.
  • Robust CPG background in strategic leadership and planning roles.
  • Hands-on experience with customers, retail, and merchandising.
  • Skilled at leveraging data and insights to build compelling stories and strategies.
  • Track record of effective cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience with P&L ownership and budget management.
  • Knowledge of compliance and brand stewardship.

Capabilities

  • Execution Leadership: Able to translate corporate sales strategy into actionable retail-level plans that drive distribution, share, and velocity.
  • Retail & Customer Expertise: Deep understanding of the cannabis retail landscape, including private and chain retailers across Canada.
  • Team Coaching & Development: Experienced in leading RSMs and TSRs, with a focus on coaching, training, and hands-on field support.
  • Performance Management: Strong ability to set KPIs and accountability frameworks that deliver measurable growth.
  • Collaboration & Alignment: Works effectively with Marketing, Sales Ops, and Key Accounts to ensure programs are executed flawlessly at retail.
  • Change Leadership: Able to drive cultural alignment and focus within a dispersed sales team during organizational transformation.
  • In-Market Presence: Comfortable spending significant time in the field to support front-line execution and gather insights.

Requirements

  • Based in the GTA area.
  • Heavy travel required (up to 50%), including quarterly visits to BC and AB to work with the team.
  • In-market at least one day per week, with own vehicle ideally required for local market days.
