Red Chris is a gold and copper mine located in the Tahltan Territory, northern British Columbia. The mine has been in operation since 2015 and has been operated by Newmont since 2023.
Red Chris is now transitioning from open pit mining to underground block caving—an advanced mining method that extends mine life while reducing environmental impact. This transformation represents one of Canada’s most significant underground mining developments and introduces new technical complexity, large-scale underground infrastructure, and opportunities to implement world-class systems and practices.

#####Your Impact
As the Superintendent, Technical Services for the Red Chris Block Cave (RCBC) Project, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and efficient transition of the Red Chris Mine into its underground block cave phase.
You will lead a multidisciplinary team supporting the successful execution of Newmont’s Red Chris Block Cave Project. Your leadership will ensure that underground technical services, including mine planning, survey, and ventilation, are delivered safely, efficiently, and in full alignment with the project’s operational and strategic goals.
#####As a Part of Our Team, You Will
- Lead and mentor a team of technical professionals in mine design, planning, ventilation, , and surveying.
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize underground mine design and operational performance.
- Ensure compliance with Newmont’s technical assurance, health and safety, and environmental standards.
- Own the processes to ensure safe engineering to enable execution of the underground block cave project.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments to maintain technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with construction, engineering, and operations teams to integrate technical services into mine development and production plans.
- Manage budgets and resources efficiently to meet project deliverables and schedules.
- Identify potential risks, implement mitigation strategies, and monitor performance outcomes.
- Foster an inclusive, performance-driven culture that promotes collaboration, accountability, and innovation
#####Requirements for Success in This Role
- Degree in Engineering (Mining, Geotechnical, or related)..
- Extensive background in underground mining, ideally within block caving.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams in complex mining environments.
- Strong knowledge of mine design, ground control, and underground infrastructure.
- Proficiency in software such as Deswik, Ventsim, XERAS.
- PMP or other relevant industry certifications are an advantage.
- Inclusive leadership style and commitment to coaching and team development.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Strong collaboration and communication abilities across technical and operational functions.
- Registered (or eligible) Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia.
- Deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks, industry standards, and corporate geotechnical governance.
#####Your Work Environment
This role will support the Red Chris Block Cave Project located in northern British Columbia.
The position is fly-in fly-out and operates on a rotational schedule of 15 days on and 13 days off.
You will work in a remote, high-altitude mining environment, supporting the development and execution of a large-scale underground mining project.
Newmont provides coordinated transportation to and from site through designated marshalling points located in:
- Vancouver
- Kelowna
- Calgary
- Smithers
Travel arrangements are coordinated to ensure safe and reliable access to site.

The expected salary range for this role is CA$148,900 - 198,500 . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.
