Job Description

The Recreation Coordinator develops and promotes sustainable programming by planning high-quality recreation opportunities, community and special events that are responsive to the community and appeal to a wide range of interests and ages at an economical price.
In this role, you will recruit instructors, volunteers, and recreation providers to establish seasonal programming and update the seasonal Recreation Guides. As the Recreation Coordinator, you will find ways to enhance customer service and improve processes and procedures. In addition, you will network with recreation associations, providers, and other stakeholders and conduct research to stay well-informed of emerging trends to provide evidence-based recommendations for procedures and future recreation projects. This multi-faceted role may entail training, leading day camps, providing coverage for clerical and reception duties and performing other related activities to ensure the success of the recreation program.

This position works 37 regular weekly hours, including some weeknights, statutory holidays, and weekends.

Qualifications

You are someone with:

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in Recreation or a related field supplemented by recent related professional experience in recreation planning, implementation, and evaluation of recreation programs for diverse users including children and youth, seniors, indigenous peoples, clubs and associations.
  • Demonstrated supervisory training and leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of marketing strategies and techniques.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 and scheduling software such as BookKing Membership in the BC Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA), Recreation Facilities Association of BC or ability to obtain membership.
  • Interpersonal communication, negotiation, conflict resolution and facilitation skills are essential.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Networking and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to research, integrate information and effectively communicate complex ideas.

The successful candidate will require a valid BC (Class 5) drivers' license. For new hires and those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, employment is conditional on a satisfactory police information check.

This position is within the bargaining unit, at the Recreation Coordinator rate of $33.54 as per 2025 Cupe Agreement
