This position works in the Community Programs organizational unit. This is recreational programming and supervisory work involved in researching and assessing community recreation needs and interests, and in designing, developing, coordinating and scheduling community recreation programs for preschool, children and families. A Coordinator - Recreation Programs, under limited direction, is also responsible for the implementation, supervision and evaluation of the programs and for the recruiting, hiring, training, development and supervision of programme staff subordinates. In addition, the work involves establishing and maintaining liaison with schools, community groups and agencies and the general public; publicizing and promoting services and programs; assisting in the direction of smaller recreation facilities as required; Prepares and maintains records, reports and correspondence; prepares recommendations for preliminary budgets and monitors expenditures; provides information and assistance to a variety of contacts regarding programs. Considerable independence of judgement, action and initiative is exercised in the performance of assigned duties, within the limits of applicable policies and procedures. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include the completion of a two-year Community College program in Community Recreation or related discipline, plus sound related supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of organized community recreation with particular emphasis on programming; of the recreational needs, interests, resources and requirements of community programming. Ability to design, develop, coordinate, schedule, and under limited direction, supervise, implement and evaluate the provision of recreational programs to meet community needs and interests; to plan, assign, supervise and check the work of program staff and to interview, hire and train same; to assist a superior in directing the operation of a large, multi-use recreation facility, as required. A valid Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia is required. Please note that a Police Information Check may be required for this position.

SCHEDULE: 48 hours bi-weekly (0.60 FTE); Tuesday to Wednesday from 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM and Friday to Saturday from 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM (shifts range between Monday to Saturday from 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM)
