Our Horizon Aerodrome location is seeking an experienced Mechanic to support our diverse operations. This is a full-time permanent role, on a 7 day in, 7 day out shift rotation. Flights from Calgary or Edmonton and camp accommodations are provided.

Main Functions:
The Mechanic, reporting to the Aerodrome Manager, plays a key role in supporting daily aerodrome operations by performing preventative maintenance, inspections, and light repairs on airport equipment and vehicles. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to working safely within a regulated aviation environment. Most of the work consists of scheduled maintenance activities that ensure equipment remains safe, reliable, and consistently operational.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, service and maintain airfield heavy equipment, ground service equipment, and fleet vehicles including:

o Diagnose diesel/gas engines, electrical, hydraulic, and driveline malfunctions and complete required repairs
o Repair, replace, clean and adjust parts.
o Perform oil changes.
o Conduct general maintenance and repair activities related to Aerodrome Operations.
o Use electric and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, lubrication equipment and other vehicle repair tools and equipment, and operate tools and machinery in a safe effective manner.
o Use of measuring devices and understanding of visual displays.
o Inspect and operate all equipment requiring repair for testing and movement to and from shop.
o Prepare inspection, maintenance, and work reports, and record details on prescribed forms and databases.
o Source, locate, and arrange delivery of replacement parts.
o Complete all maintenance and repairs work within approved budgets and the scope of CNRL service agreements.
o Perform inventory management duties; and
o Conduct housekeeping duties, including cleaning of ground service equipment, the maintenance facility and general operational areas.

  • Ensure compliance with Transport Canada, Occupational Health and Safety, industry standards, and all CNRL regulations.

  • Provide services after hours on an on-call/as-needed basis.

  • When major corrective repairs are required, coordinate and transfer equipment to the client’s maintenance facility for completion.

  • Support general aerodrome operations as required.

  • Maintain a tidy, orderly work area and contribute to a healthy and safe work environment.

  • Deliver exceptional, courteous and respectful customer service.

  • Comply with and participate in EFC’s Health, Safety & Environment and Quality programs and initiatives.

  • Perform any additional duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Journeyman Mechanic (Automotive or Commercial Transport).

  • Interprovincial Red Seal Certification is preferred.

  • Minimum of 4 years diesel, automotive, truck/coach, hydraulics and/or heavy equipment mechanical experience.

  • Relevant work experience in Aerodrome or remote worksite conditions, preferably in aviation.

  • Experience troubleshooting hydraulic and electronic systems.

  • Valid class 5 driver’s license and clean Driver’s Abstract. No restrictions permitted.

  • Ability to meet all required pre-employment and site access screening including, but not limited to, Common Safety Orientation (CSO) course, Horizon Site Contractor Orientation and Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol test.

  • EFC and CNRL required theoretical and practical training (. e.g. WHIMS, AVOP, Dangerous Goods, etc.).

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)

  • Strong verbal communication, reading comprehension, and writing skills.

  • Ability to interact with people professionally, tactfully and respectfully at all times.

  • A strong work ethic and positive team attitude.

  • Ability to work in inclement weather conditions, overtime and extended shifts.

  • Physically able to lift or move up to 60 lbs.

  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and manage stress effectively.

  • Highly motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to multi-task and establish priorities in a dynamic operational setting.

  • Commitment meeting quality, safety and client satisfaction levels.

  • Professional, punctual, and diligent.

  • Able to work both collaboratively and independently as a productive member of the team.
