About the role

As a Manager of Rail Business Services, you will be responsible to provide management, oversight and guidance for Rail commercial and compliance activities. Your goal will be to lead a team that will be responsible for rail procure to pay functions, forecasting, budgeting, and billing compliance requirements. The role also leads strategic projects, analytics and provides recommendations for rail projects, including management of the rail software system. Other responsibilities include identifying and executing on process improvement activities, leading complex initiatives that require providing direction to other stakeholder groups and commercial contract reviews.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Use well-developed and proven leadership skills to interact effectively and honestly with senior leaders and other stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with direct team and hold individuals accountable for commitments, job performance and behaviors by providing regular, timely, specific, and constructive feedback
  • Acquire and remain current with in-depth understanding of contracts and TDG regulations; stay up-to-date on any changes that could impact the business
  • Conduct, report, and communicate quality control monitoring; implement plans for mitigation and improvement as required
  • Facilitate (lead and prepare) the rail forecasting and budgeting process Collaborate with FP&A and other stakeholders to ensure forecast accuracy
  • Create and/or update departmental procedures; ensure team is aware of updates and documentation is accessible for them
  • Develop and update training materials and provide training to employees on systems, policies, and processes as required
  • Manage all rail logistics procure-to-pay functions
  • Analyze costs and identify trends for continuous improvements opportunities
  • Conduct fleet analysis and create recommendations on optimal fleet sizing per commodity
  • Lead and/or participate in rail strategy initiatives including business case development with other teams (Refining, Feedstocks, etc.)
  • Lead and influence Rail-related aspects of projects
  • Analyze historical data, costing, future forecasting, risk determination, and providing recommendations and actions
  • Participate in setting and developing product line strategies involving rail
  • Lead fleet strategies including maximizing fleet
  • Manage and participate in negotiating contracts such as rail storage, rail software programs, consulting and some third party chemicals transported by rail
  • Provide oversight to the process of creating rail shipping documents
  • Manage rail billing schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage to support our rail movements
  • Flexibility in work schedule as Rail Billing responsibilities follow a 24/7 rotating schedule

Your Skills:

  • Strong leadership skills, able to coach, communicate, and collaborate to lead high performing teams
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Deep understanding of Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations; manage strict compliance
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Financial acumen for accurate cost forecasting and budgeting
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with a wide variety of stakeholders, including senior leaders
  • Ability to make difficult decisions under pressure
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, changes and best practices

Your Experience:

  • Post-secondary education in business administration, logistics, finance, or related field. Equivalent experience will be considered
  • Experience in accounting and/or finance
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership position
  • 10+ years of experience working in a related business
  • Logistics experience is an asset
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulation knowledge considered an asset
