Summary

The Driver with Air Brakes is responsible for Driving the egg truck to make deliveries on time while handling eggs with care. This role is also responsible for assisting drivers with striking, helping guide drivers on and off job sites, and helping with loading and unloading. This position involves heavy lifting and farm upkeep duties including cleaning, washing, and sanitizing the barns and equipment. This role involves regular manual labor, including physical tasks and hands-on work as part of daily responsibilities.

Employment Tenure

This is a full-time temporary position with the potential to become permanent based on organizational needs and performance.

Schedule

The work schedule will be assigned weekly and will vary depending on operational needs, averaging 40 hours per week. Weekend and Holiday work will be required depending on operational requirements.

Position Accountabilities

  • Deliver healthy day old chicks, and eggs to API customers and provide good communication with customers.
  • Ensure loads are secured and equipment is working properly prior to departures.
  • Drive egg and other equivalent trucks with Air Brake Endorsement.
  • Meet delivery deadlines in a timely manner while following all safety and road rules.
  • Ensure all dispatch instructions are followed accurately and report any issues to the Logistics Coordinator/Dispatcher as required.
  • Complete pre-trips, paperwork, and logbooks as required.
  • Unload all shavings
  • Assist with cleaning, washing and sanitizing the barns and equipment
  • Interact with customers in a friendly and positive manner.
  • Clean truck according to cleaning schedule.
  • Assist with cleaning boxes and materials as required.
  • Load/Unload chicks and eggs safely and humanely.
  • Support and direct driver in backing up trucks onto job sites and difficult areas.
  • Assist with truck and equipment maintenance as necessary.
  • Protect the organization’s value by keeping all protected and proprietary information confidential.
  • Practice bio security protocol.
  • Follow animal welfare policies.
  • Follow all safety processes and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

The position operates in a farm/barn environment, The work environment is warm and humid and dusty at times with strong odours. Standing for long periods of time, repetitive tasks, and heavy lifting are common.
