About the Health and Safety Specialist role

Reporting to the HR Manager - Health & Safety, the Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting in the development, implementation, and administration of the health and safety policies and programs within ANBL & Cannabis NB. This role plays a critical part in fostering a culture of safety and compliance throughout both organizations, ensuring that all operations adhere to relevant regulations and best practices.

Additional Responsibilities

• Risk Assessment: Conduct regular inspections of the workplace to identify potential hazards, violence and risks.

• Audits: Conduct monthly safety audits as determined by CNB & ANBL’s Health and Safety Index.

• Joint Health and Safety Responsibilities:

o Collaboration: Act as a liaison between management and the JHSC

o Training and Support: Provide or arrange for training and resources to JHSC members on their roles, responsibilities, and health and safety regulations to ensure they are equipped to fulfill their duties effectively. Support the JHSC teams within ANBL & CNB in identifying workplace hazards through regular inspections and risk assessments, encouraging input from committee members.

o Action Plan Development: Work with the JHSC to develop and implement action plans addressing identified hazards or safety concerns, tracking progress on initiatives.

o Employee Engagement: Promote the role of the JHSC among employees, encouraging participation and fostering a culture of safety throughout the organization.

o Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that the JHSC is informed about relevant health and safety regulations and assist in compliance audits and inspections.

o H&S Program and Policy Review: Review H&S program, policies and procedures annually to ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations.

What do you need to be successful?

• A post-secondary degree in Occupational Health & Safety or another related discipline.
• 3 years of experience working directly with health & safety programs and administration.
• A strong working and application knowledge of New Brunswick Health and Safety legislation.
• Strong computer proficiency, with emphasis on MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of legislation, regulations and accident prevention in relation to health & safety
• Ability to travel to ANBL and CNB, as well as subsidiary sites throughout the province on weekends or irregular hours in emergency situations.
• Experience with change management

Would be an asset if you had:

Advanced Microsoft Office Suite of products: particularly Excel and Word.

Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, timeline sensitive and results-driven environment.

Key Competencies

• Training and Education: Provide input on training and education to employees on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and the proper use of protective equipment. Facilitating safety training. Working with the Learning & Development team to develop learning and training modules.

• Compliance and Monitoring: Ensure that the organization complies with all relevant health and safety regulations and standards. Report on statistics and compliance on a monthly basis.

• Incident Investigation: Investigate workplace accidents and incidents to determine causes and recommend corrective actions to the appropriate HRBP. Maintain records of incidents and safety training. Involve the JHSC in the investigation of the workplace incidents and accidents, gathering input and insights to prevent future occurrences.

• Communication: Serve as a point of contact for health and safety related queries and concerns.

• Safety Policies and Procedures: Review and provide input onpolicies and procedures. Implement safety policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards**.**

Language competencies

• Bilingualism in both official languages is an asset, but not required

Work location:

• This is a remote-based position with frequent travel required to ANBL &CNB locations for inspections, audits, training, and incident investigations.
• Must be based in New Brunswick at time of employment

Compensation information:

• $65,014 - $75,438
