Your Opportunity: As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the ORT will be responsible for providing peri-operative patient care using the nursing process, in accordance with CLPNA and Standards of Practice and Competencies for the Perioperative LPN. The Misericordia Community Hospital OR includes the following types of services: general, plastic, urological, gynecological, Craniofacial Care Program surgery and orthopedic surgery. The incumbent will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective and efficient care in both a scrub and a circulating role as an integral part of the surgical team. The nurse is responsible to provide safe care throughout the patient stay in the OR and promotes their professional role by evaluating their own educational requirements and clinical practice. The ORT will work within their full scope of practice on a continuum ranging from basic to advanced clinical nursing activities. The nurse will practice using evidence-based measures and outcomes, they will be a patient advocate, and will provide a link between patient care units and the Operating Room. Description: Description: The Licensed Practical Nurse - Operating Room Technician (LPN-ORT) works as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care and support to patients/residents and families. The LPN-ORT works to the full scope of practice in providing safe, quality care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE Auxiliary Nursing Collective Agreement. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. Additional Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Perioperative Nursing program for LPN's with a minimum of three months of recent Operating Room experience within the past two years Required. Must be able to lift 25lbs and have the physical ability to push, pull, bend, and stand for prolonged periods of time (more than 30 minutes). Demonstrates excellent organizational, interpersonal and written/oral communication skills both spoken and written. Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized and rapid moving environment. Ability to collaborate within the expectations of an integrated team. Demonstrates proven problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Computer skills including experience with electronic charting & Microsoft Outlook. You must successfully complete all portions of the Perioperative Course at MacEwan University, including the OR clinical preceptor portion to become an ORT and retain a position in the OR. This position is subject to provisions in LOU # 7 RE: OPERATING ROOM AND ORTHOPEDIC TECHNICIAN TRAINING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY in the AUPE Collective Agreement. Preferred Qualifications: At least two year’s operating room experience an asset.

Requirements
Candidates must be registered LPNs with the CLHA, hold BLS Level C certification, and have completed a Perioperative Nursing program. A minimum of three months of recent OR experience and the ability to meet physical demands such as lifting 25lbs are required.
