The Legal Advocacy Program is seeking a dedicated and community‑minded Legal Advocate (Punjabi‑Speaking) to support farm workers across the Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland. This role provides crucial legal information, advocacy, and education to agricultural workers—many of whom face barriers related to language, migration, and employment conditions.

Your Role:

Archway’s Legal Advocacy Worker with the Legal Advocacy Program contributes by:

• Providing Fraser Valley/Lower Mainland farm workers with clear and accurate legal information about their workplace rights and responsibilities.
• Offering one-on-one support and group education on topics such as:
  • WorkSafe BC
  • Employment Standards
  • Employment Insurance
  • Residential Tenancy
  • Human Rights
  • Canada Pension Disability
• Attending meetings, interviews, mediation sessions and hearings with clients.
• Planning, organizing, and delivering legal education activities and workshops for farm workers.
• Developing, updating, and maintaining educational materials.
• Conducting regular community outreach to inform farm workers about the program and available services.
• Fostering partnerships with government and non-government organizations to improve living and working conditions for farm workers.
• Advocating for policy changes that positively impact migrant and local agricultural workers.
• Gathering input from farm workers through consultations, discussions or committees.
• Attending monthly file reviews and meetings with the supervising lawyer.
• Maintaining accurate and confidential client files.
• Compiling online statistics and preparing monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports.

• Wage: $29.00 per hour
• A full-time position at 35 hours per week, availability Mondays to Fridays, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Some evening and weekend work will be required.

###Getting an Interview–you will be considered if you have:

• A minimum of two years of post-secondary education in a human resources or related social services field, or equivalent education and experience.
• Experience writing reports and submissions.
• Strong understanding of marginalization and familiarity with BC and Canadian legal systems, including:
  • Workers’ Compensation
  • Employment Standards
  • Human Rights
  • Employment Insurance
  • Tax Court of Canada
• Fluency in both English and Punjabi is essential.
• Knowledge of BC’s small fruit and vegetable agricultural sector is an asset.

The Job Requires you to have:

• Excellent administrative, communication, record-keeping, and computer skills.
• The ability to provide support to Temporary Foreign Workers in agriculture.
• The ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends when required, without exceeding scheduled hours unless authorized.
• The ability to work effectively under pressure and be highly organized.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a collaborative team.
• A valid BC Driver’s License and satisfactory Driver’s Abstract.
• The use of a personal vehicle for program-related driving.
• A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment.
