About the role
Standard General Edmonton 250 Carleton Drive St. Albert, AB T8N 6W2
##About the Role
Lowboy Foreperson - Lead the Team That Keeps Heavy Equipment Moving
Make a visible difference in your community by leading safe, efficient heavy‑haul operations across the Greater Edmonton region. As our Lowboy Foreperson you’ll be the on‑the‑ground leader for lowboy truck operations - driving daily moves, coaching operators, and working closely with the Lowboy Dispatcher to keep projects on schedule and compliant with safety and regulatory standards.
Why This Role Matters
Your experience and leadership keep vital equipment flowing to construction, infrastructure and community projects. You’ll shape safe practices, mentor the next generation of operators, and ensure every haul is executed professionally and on time.
What You’ll Do
- Lead daily operations: Operate the lowboy truck and coordinate morning dispatches and equipment moves with the Lowboy Dispatcher.
- Champion safety: Conduct daily pre‑start checks (PSCs) with operators, promote Goal Zero and CI initiatives, and enforce Occupational Health & Safety requirements for Class 1 lowboy operation.
- Support production: Troubleshoot lowboy issues throughout the day and ensure all units are properly equipped and permitted.
- Manage people: Evaluate, train and mentor new Lowboy Operators; support employee relations through coaching and constructive feedback.
- Maintain compliance: Confirm permits, registrations, chains and binders are in place; order supplies through the Trucking Superintendent; uphold company and regulatory policies.
Who We’re Looking For
- Proven leader with at least five years’ experience in construction material/equipment transportation.
- Valid Class 1 licence with a satisfactory driving record; successful pre‑employment drug, alcohol and medical testing.
- Strong knowledge of Greater Edmonton road networks and transportation regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal, organisational and problem‑solving skills—reliable, detail‑oriented and hands‑on.
- Confident communicator (oral & written) with good English comprehension.
- Competent with business software: Outlook, FleetWatcher, HCSS, Excel, Word, etc.
- Training in Traffic Safety and supervisory skills is an asset.
Physical & Working Conditions
- Physically fit: ability to repetitively lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable getting in/out of the truck multiple times daily and sitting for extended periods when required.
- Ability to perform under tight timelines and deadline pressure.
- Must wear appropriate PPE as required by company policy and OH&S regulations.
What You’ll Get
- A leadership role where your decisions directly impact project success and community infrastructure.
- Daily variety: a mix of hands‑on driving, team mentoring and operational coordination.
- The chance to shape safety culture and build a skilled team of operators.
How to Apply
Please apply directly to this posting & send your CV and a short cover note highlighting your Class 1 experience, supervisory background, and any familiarity with FleetWatcher or HCSS.
