Reporting to the VP of Operations, the H&S Manager ensures that the Corporate Safety Program complies with all legislative and regulatory laws and drives continuous improvement beyond compliance for any and all jurisdictions in which Carmacks operates. He/she promotes positive safety attitudes and safe work practices throughout the organization. The H&S Manager will be responsible for the supervision of all safety positions within the Carmacks organization.
What is the role?
Monitor and manage the Carmacks Safety Management System for both Carmacks
Enterprises Ltd and Carmacks Maintenance Systems Ltd. ensuring that the Program complies with all legislative and regulatory laws for any and all jurisdiction in which Carmacks operates Participate in Carmack’s Health & Safety Steering Committee (HSSC) Implement the annual H&S strategy in collaboration with the QHSE Director of Western Canada and the HSSC Plan, prioritize and manage safety activities and resources to meet operational needs Responsible for the training and supervision of safety personnel to ensure that they have the ability to carry out all Safety Program requirements Facilitate employee safety committees and programs Oversee employee on-boarding to ensure all new employees receive proper training and hear a consistent message Along with safety committee recommendations and regulatory requirements, develops and recommends changes to health and safety policies and programs to management Update and maintain Corporate Safety Management System Advise managers and employees about safety standards and regulations Recommend appropriate procedures and equipment for safety and compliance with relevant laws and regulations Promote safe work practices and procedures as well as injury prevention activities Monitor and evaluate work practices and procedures Maintain detailed inspection or investigation records, prepare reports and attend to related administrative requirements Participate in and coordinate accident/incident investigations Monitor and complete monthly statistical reports on all H&S leading and lagging indicators. Track incidents; analyze frequency and causes and make recommendations for improvement Review or conduct site-specific inspections Review or conduct site-specific audits Conduct and oversee the scheduling, organization, and implementation of safety training, including annual safety days and other safety events. Oversee the administration of the Injury Management Program for injured workers with medical restrictions Responsible for emergency planning Responsible for all activities relating to WCB administration.
Conduct and coordinate COR safety audits both external and internal
Maintain annual prequalification. (i.e., ISNetworld, Complyworks Monitor and maintain National Safety Code records for compliance. Also responsible for NSC related training

National Safety Construction Officer Designation
Canadian Registered Safety Professional Minimum 5 years senior safety related experience in the construction industry 1-2 years leadership experience Previous experience in occupational health and safety function and a demonstrated knowledge of health safety and fire legislation, Occupational health and safety, job accommodation, workers’ compensation and ergonomics Knowledge and understanding of OH&S Act and regulations, WCB, Privacy Legislation & Duty to Accommodate
